Without the addition of a Y chromosome in the womb, Kassen would have grown up receiving a less comprehensive education, but still apprenticed in her family business, working the shop while her father was out. When the draft was called, her father was called to war, as the family had no suitable sons to serve.
When Dinnlan's defense failed, her city was one of the first to be sacked. The destruction and looting was minimal, as the Beletan soldiers were under strict orders to preserve Dinnlan's infrastructure and skilled labor for its eventual fold into the Sovereignty of Beletam.
With no word from her father, he was presumed dead, and Cassie's mother was wracked with anguish over the loss of her husband and the head of their household. Cassie did her best to take over the family store; struggling, but making enough income to keep her and her mother fed. Behind her polite service to her customers (many of which were Beletan soldiers and settlers), she spitefully cursed the Sovereignty of Beletam for her misfortune.
Her mother died of unknown causes less than a year later, and with the extra funds from having only one mouth to feed, Cassie began secretly stockpiling poisons, made by one of her suppliers who shared her keen hatred of Beletam.
She currently runs a very successful apothecary in her family store, and offers special deals to Beletan soldiers; and lacking a husband, this has made her very popular among the occupational soldiery.
A census study decades years later would note a strange tendency of Beletan soldiers in the area to die of slow-developing, crippling ailments.

Potential futures: a war deserter, signed up with a trade company and turned into a yinglet, or becoming her conquered town's apothecary/black widow. Lots of fun either way!
...In either gender, Kass has a tendency to try and turn any situation to his/her advantage. It worked out well enough as an alternate-timeline woman, so we'll have to see how male-turned-female-yinglet Kass handles it!

It's a possibility, though cannons haven't really reached widespread use in this hemisphere of the world, and gunpowder creation is a bit of a specialist art.
Seriously though, Cassie's wearing a traditional Dinnish women's style in this pic and the puffy shouldered style wouldn't really work well on yinglet anatomy, as they kinda lack defined shoulders.

Ha! So are you saying canonical, male-to-female Kassen is attracted to women?
...I was about to write "I guess everything depends on the transformation process", but I suppose that isn't true. If I were magically transformed from a straight male into a straight female, I would probably continue being attracted to women out of habit or sense of identity, until some sort of forced realization occurred.

Well! Canon, Out-Of-Placers Kass is definitely attracted to women, and alternate-timeline Cassie here is attracted to men. But yinglet males are generally attracted to each other, with their interaction with the females being a bit of a... different sort of thing. Of course there are some weirdo yinglet males who want to have a relationship with a female, but who knows what's wrong with them? They're weird.
Nice pic! Cassie is a cute one, I must say. I like the hair clip thingies. And I think you got her boobs just right. :)
Regarding the story, well thought out and executed. Given what's said (and what's hinted at) I have to wonder about those "mysterious causes" her mother suffered. And Cassie herself needs to be careful; by offering "special deals" to Beletans she might be mistaken for a sympathizer and targeted by someone who wholly agrees with her but she hasn't taken into her confidence.
