Bronies are a young enough subculture to be acutely aware of the position that furries occupy in the pecking order. They'll use all of the vintage memetic flames from 2003 to dissociate from furries despite having all of the same eccentricities only with one very narrow stylization that swallows everything like an assimilating cancer (as opposed to hundreds).
It really makes you wonder what the future holds as far as topping bronies, though.
I mean, I remember when Trekkies were the top target. Then science fiction and fantasy became much more mainstream 'n now nobody bashes an eyelash 'n furries were the hip thing. Hmm. Still waiting on J.J. Abrams to make a furry movie. :x
