It's a common occurrence, but no one really knows what causes it in these little bugs... A theory is that it's caused when they have a habit of rubbing their faces against surfaces lmao.
It was present in presub, really bad as a subadult, but it seems to have gotten a *little* better as an adult, phew!
Thankfully, it's entirely cosmetic, and as scary as it looks, doesn't actually affect their vision!

it's actually a way safer political climate than the States seems to be in. Don't believe what western news and media tells you; the US is just mad because the guy they backed to run this country was so corrupt he was kicked out of thailand. I'm so mad that now, they're portraying this country as a place of unrest--and it's not. It was in civil unrest while the corrupt (US backed) government was in power, but now they've been totally outsed.
With the military coup, the country is in really good condition atm. I think they came at the right time, and are doing an excellent job.
The US and the UK need to keep their nose out of thai politics, and stop talking bad about it while the country cleans up the gross mess they encouraged. Blegh.
Tl:dr: I am very safe, and very happy :D And thailand is running much better than it was even just a year ago.

Yeah, I know our government sucks. Still Send me spicy food or the chocobo gets its ass trapped in the garbage disposal full of rotten turnips and afterbirth.......AGAIN! do you want to be responsible for that bath again? do you want to explain that to his moter again?
I find they're quite easy to raise, but they do require a lot of attention/diligence especially if you have more than one.
Their care, while very particular, is quite easy to maintain once you get the gist of it :D
Still, they're not the kind of pet you can leave to a caretaker/housesitter for a few weeks, since people tend to under estimate how important these bugs are to the people who own them, or misunderstand the kind of care they require. So vacations longer than a week, if you can't take your bug with you, is pretty much a death sentence for the poor things...
Pretty much everyone who's paid a friend or family member to watch their mantis/es for an extended period of time only have sad/angry stories to tell. I'm sure it's different if you have fellow insect enthusiast friends!

Awwwww, she's so pretty <3 I used to babysit my bio teacher's praying mantids during summer once, but unfortunately they were all already pretty old for mantids :C So all three of them eventually passed away one by one. That and one of the females gave the male a nasty bite on the eye during mating, and he didn't recover from that afterwards despite my best efforts TT _ TT *pout*
And at the moment I'm not allowed to have any kind of pets, not even insects, so no mantids for me :V gweeeh
