IMO, if the background looked more real, it would throw off the image. The way it is now is perfect. :3

Look at my Avatar, there where eyes would be. Now imagine a thin line of oil is running down the cheekbone.
(that to the leaking hydraulics)
This picture itself is beatiful drawn, the style and coloring are wonderful matching. That character had a person wich he loved and had lost, but not forgotten.
(and thats is about beatiful and sad at the same time)

Ahh, you did a really good job here. The picture is heartwarming in a melancholy sort of way. That aside, I really envy how well you do backgrounds (especially forest backgrounds.) those trees in the distance are perfect!
