Oh, it isn't that bad. Tor was going to rob the chicken who was pulling the potato wagon. he "borrowed" the horse, rode up, and attempted to jump from said horse to wagon. Just then the chicken tripped over a ladybug in the road and the resulting flip sent bird, cart, Tor, and horse careening down the road, ricocheting off of a boulder, another tree, two houses and a city guardsman before plunging down a two-mile steep hill and finally all landing in the tree where they are now.
And it al began when Silver told Tor, "Yes, I'd like fries with that."

I've got a version, but Tor being on the far end of the branch rather than close to the trunk is odd. Probably Tor did not pick the most stable position and risked unnecessarily. As usual.
I suppose Tor wanted to use the chicken to steal potatoes. He throws the chicken at the cart, the chicken grabs a potato sack, Tor pulls it back up. The chicken tried to fly away. The rope was too short to fly far, so it landed on the horse's muzzle. The horse backed abruptly, hit the tree and knocked Tor off. Tor hit the cart catapulting the horse up. The horse grabbed the tree for its life. Meanwhile the chicken desperately tried to fly away, but the rope was also tangled around another branch (this is why both ends of the rope are on the same side of the visible branch), and the bird only managed to slowly lift Tor up. Same friction didn't allow Tor to fall to the ground again when the bird fell down fatigued — he descended slowly and not far. The bird tried to fly away a few more times, but only managed to wrap the rope around the visible branch securing Tor in place. By the time Silver arrived it stopped trying.
Drat, the cart's got no shafts. The catapult won't work.
