ON THAT TRASH MOUNTAIN YOU TOLD ME ABOUT

My wife and I went out stargazing in a field during the Perseids not too long ago. For those not in the know, Perseids are meteor showers that occur rather regularly during this time of year. If the timing is right, you can see more shooting stars than any other time of the year. It's about 11 PM at night, and we're laying down on blankets over the grass, just staring straight up.

I'm looking one way and my wife is looking another, and after a bit of watching, I saw something that would burn into my memory forever.

A perseid RIPS open the sky! A meteor large enough that it leaves a trail of fire in it's wake, making it look like it was tearing a slit through time and space!

And just as soon as I saw it, like in the blink of an eye, it was gone! I thought for a moment that the world was going to come to an end for just a split second. Then as the night sky resumed its peace and tranquility, I realized that what felt like a lifetime had passed before me in an instant.

My wife was jealous I saw it and she didn't. We still saw plenty of other shooting stars, but nothing...

...and I mean NOTHING...

...could top the one that looked like it was tearing the fabric of reality.
