Powerful sorcerers use magic that can debilitate enemies en masse, making them threats in any circumstance. The preferred attacks of sorcerers are water spells imbued with potent toxins, allowing for fast, wide ranged attacks. Some sorcerers also practice necromancy and summoning, causing enemies to succumb to poison or puppets without ever being found.
Sorcerers perform at their best when being protected by a tank-type unit and a sniper. Sentinels and fighter-type units may replace the tank, and auto-turrets and war mages are substituted for snipers.

If I were a sorcerer and a sniper, I can surely balance all of my ice elemental magic with all of my sniper abilities.
Sorcerers are powerful with many elements as seen in http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.p.....lementalPowers .

Balancing your abilities and your magic isn't a problem, but it stops you from having a specialization. While all units need to have a basic melee weapon, spell and firearm, their proficiency with them depends on their class, natural affinity for that skill and the amount of time they train in that skill.
Sorcerers are magic snipers, using slow-to-cast but powerful AoE spells to pressure opponents. The specialization skill they have allows them to have increased range on their spells and reduced casting time/cool down on sniping magic.
Snipers can pierce armour units with their specialization skill, giving them access to one of few instant-death attacks. They have reduced recharge time on sniper ammunition, and can use both conventional sniper rifles and sniping lasers with similar amounts of success.
While you can mix skills and weapons with classes, you lose the most powerful traits of the one you don't specialize in, in favor of versatility.
I want to develop video games, so this is the mechanic of how classes work(just more basic than it should be). If it looks interesting, I can tell you more.

How about some general stuff about magic?
Magic Usage and Technology
Because of advancements in technology, weapon units can be used to allow those who don't study(or even know what it is) magic to cast spells. By automizing the majority of the casting process users can cast spells with mere gestures without the extensive training natural mages undergo.
Natural mages are mages who've learned how to perform magic without mechanical aids. These individuals use weapon units to accelerate the casting process and reduce the strain of performing magic on themselves. Mages can also use higher level magic techniques and spells than a weapon unit allows an untrained individual to.
Magic can be used for many purposes, making it's presence widespread. Many cultures around the universe use magic in place of technology, while others consider it sacred. Most commonly found however, are cultures that have merged magic and technology. These different cultures have caused both magic and technology to become extremely advanced.
Cultures that use magic extensively appear to have higher concentrations of magidum, the element associated with the usage of magic. It appears that exposure to magidum during critical developmental periods of living creatures causes them to develop an affinity for magic. Research into this correlation is ongoing.
Individuals that use magic act as nodes for magidum. When casting spells the individual has extremely high levels of magidum flowing through their body. By controling the pattern, flow rate, type and concentration an individual can cast different spells. The ease at which an individual can channel magidum varies, with some being better and others being worse. This process is heavily associated with a compound known as magnetite(a briefly physical substance sharing its name with iron oxide).
That's a fair bit for now. Let me know if you want to see more!
