I REALLY like Super Mario Bros. 2. it gets shit on for being different and the whole Doki Doki Panic thing... which by the way, has kinda been debunked for the fact that Nintendo R&D1 was working on a Super Mario Bros. game that went vertically rather than Horizontally, and the only reason it didn't become the proper SMB2 was because of Hiroshi Yamauchi simultaneously striking that deal with Fuji TV and needing a game to quickly convert into a game for them, while at the same time wanting to push a sequel to Super Mario Bros. ASAP.
Considering that the Mario franchise has gone hundreds of different directions since its inception, "being different" isn't much of an argument.
I think it's okay, but the only thing I really don't like is the fact that the longest, most complicated dungeons/castles that you invariably get lost in have a really, REALLY short music loop that becomes grating and annoying very fast.
