United States Rapid Deployment Force patch for Africa Department, as used during the period between 1975 and 1988. The emblem was only used as a unit patch for Marine, Army, and Air Force units at division and higher levels. There is some photographic evidence of some recruits arriving in Angola during the 1983-85 Johannesburg Crisis wearing the patch, but it appears it was never issued at a 'general' level.
