There are some other info that I didn't put on the reference so I'll explain a little on here.


History:
Bat Mongrels Also known as "Grells" were always a mysterious figure in Japanese culture. They were meant to be "Spirit Guardians," by the gods, but instead most of them turned away to demonic purposes. Instead of protecting the dead souls that were meant for, they would eat and consume them for their own benefit. So once a family member came to pay respects to that soul they would receive all the offerings and prayers. Some would even haunt the family just out of pure fun. So demon hunters will expel these mischievous monsters from other people's homes.

Not all Grells are bad though, some are actually meant to do what they are supposed to because they grow to like the humans they are assigned to. A lot of them grow very attached to the children of the family, being big ghostly puppies to play with.

Additional info:

-I didn't put it in the ref, but Grells can transform their giant paws into wings. BUT ONLY DEMONIC GRELLS CAN DO THIS This is because of the souls they devour. They develop wings out of becoming more demonic.

-Grells are very curious. They will investigate anything that peaks their interest. And I mean, ANYTHING.

-Once a Grell finds something that it loves, it will protect it with it's life. This is made up within all Grells.

-Another variety I didn't place in the ref is that demonic Grells will also grow horns if they start stealing and devoring innocent souls. This horn/horns will grow in the center of their forehead or on their backs. They just get super growty and ugly instead of cute. haha

-Killing a Grell can be through a dispel from a monk/priest or if somehow their crowns were to ever break. Their crowns hold their own souls and life force.
