Desk Top Growth (old)
Very old work, as you can see. The last time this scene file was saved was 19/10/2010. While that doesn't technically make it student work, it's pretty damned close. I Just went through my old archives last night and rendered this off as I slept. I'll ultimately assign it to scraps.
A tiny scaley starts to grow on top of a desk. He should be a rat. But he isn't a because I had no rat at the time. Oh how the tables have turned.

This is really cool. The animation is fluid and you really did capture the emotions of such unexpected growth well too. I really wonder what program it is that you are using to make these awesome animations. I honestly can't stop looking at this though, it's just incredible.
I have heard of Maya, but I never realized you could make such amazing animations with it. I've seen other animations or set pieces that look like they were made using Maya, yet I could never figure out the program. Thank you. ^w^ I do wonder though if you have more growth things coming up. I mean you can't stop growing! Your username says that! XD
Y'know, CSG, if you're trying to tide over your fans until the other animation is done, I think your plan may have backfired. I'm pretty sure people will still be clamoring for more of Andre, but now they're going to want you to continue this one too. XD
Beautiful work though, especially for its age! It's interesting, seeing both how good you were even as a "practically-student" and how far you've come since then. :> Other than the foot jumping suddenly at one point, the animation is very smooth and lifelike, and you convey a ton of personality through body language alone! But at the same time, after seeing the way you pulse the growth in your later animations, seeing the way Andre has to constantly adjust his footing to accommodate it, having this guy just grow with a simple upscaling seems shockingly primative, haha. (Though the way you kept his hands in-place on the mug was nice!)
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. <3

Thanks man ^^. And haha, its backfired on me a bit, as now I want to make something similar to this theme with my rat. I have an awesome vision of him holding up a ruler as he gets taller and taller ^^.
But aside form the foot snapping, there is also much clipping, and the tail isn't animating anywhere near competently (Im suprised no ones pointed that one out), and twist joints are popping and toes are falling through the floor and... you get the point XD.
And yeah its harder to percieve (and sell) global scale growth as I have found o.0. He more than tripples his height in this but it still doesn't feel like that much :o

Hah, I love the ruler idea - especially since we both know he'd wind up rather quickly outgrowing it completely. ;3 He'd have to start comparing it against single body parts if he wanted to keep using it as a measuring stick....
I'd noticed the stiff tail, but I figured that since this was originally meant to be a rat (a species not exactly known for flexible, expressive tails) that you did that on purpose. XD And the movements go so quickly that, while I thought there was a bit of clipping, it was never egregious enough to catch my eye.
And you're right, it's weird how he can get so much bigger and still feel like it wasn't that much ... maybe because it comes in three quick spurts, instead of being a constant process? Maybe because, even though he grows a lot, he's still small in objective terms when the animation ends? I dunno!

your grade is A+ :) this is very good work for something you did so early on. its a little fast though. Editing it to run at about 3/4 speed might actually improve it though in my opinion. thats the only flaw i can come up with. :P wich of course is a good thing. your work is great.
Ha ha haaaa! It's almost like you've done this before or something
Looks great man, the animation is so smooth and.. frenetic. Totally different style than what I do, which is way more subdued. I know that's harder to do. I especially like the fall and sense of weight imparted on the mug. I absolutely know how hard that is to get to look right... you must have used so many keys and tweaked the hell out of it. MOAR!

I put your animation at regular speed and slow speed, then uploaded on youtube and found a song to use in the audio swap that turned out alright.

*Shortly notice the weight lighten up as his feet reach the floor, but notice he just keeps getting bigger and bigger* I take it i wasn't suppose ta give him water or something. *starts lifting me off the ground, as i continue to try holding his bulging growing body as i also start thinking* He's gonna ruin my home!
*I let go and stand back as i also start looking up seeing him kind of smiling down at me* Which would be a bit difficult for him to do, when he's feeling growing pains. *He starts losing his balance again as he falls forward, but stops himself from landing on me, as he lands on his hands and knees, where i suddenly hear a cracking sound from the floor followed by creaking sounds* Oh shit, i better get out from under before he comes down on me!
I really do enjoy watching your growth animations! <3
My only complaint, it's a bit too fast for me and a lot of the details can get lost as I try to keep up in watching the animation and looking to spot all the changes in his explosive growth spurt. Is there any way you can slow it down a bit?
