HOW TO BUTT [Stupid Rant Doodle]
OKAY, so I have a major beef with how some fuzzies like to butt and it drives me BANANAS. Especially when I see those butt icons with standard human thongs and such with disjointed tails on their backs that just seem to painfully dangle over the rim of the garment.
So, here's a stupid doodle I did on a big page. I gave it a lil color and such to spice it up even though I know the presentation still looks like crap. It gets the point across.
Now... PLZ, you are an artist with the power to design things from your imagination. FUGGIN MAKE PANTS THAT WOULD EXIST IN A WORLD OF PEOPLE WITH TAILS.
Also, if you have a character that has a huge, thick tail, like a roo, dragon, ect.... WIDEN THE FUGGIN HIPS. It's even worst when a disjointed back-tail that's THAT THICK is dangling over the back...
Look are MEWTWO's anatomy... That's much more like what it should look like. The hips need to be wide for a tail like that.
Also... why is it that when some people draw clean art of mewtwo (and things with like anatomy) they draw them right... but suddenly when it's porn, its suddenly changes and ruins that wide-hipped "dragon-butt" that I love so much about mewtwo's look?
AND YEAH, I KNOW THIS IS COMING FROM THE FAGGOT WHO NEVER PUTS PANTS ON HIS CHARACTERS. Butt still. If you're gonna be a nerd and do pants. Do them right. D:<

Just gotta say~ Not trying to be a jerk. Take it with a grain of salt please. While I am serious to a certain point, I'm just poking fun and tryin to be a little funny. K?

But ince they are anthros if they were to sit down it would hurt their tails a little, specially if sitting on the toilet if you think about it. Because they wouldn't sit like real animals would where their legs keep them off the ground a little when they sit, there for they'd be in pain. D:
Well, how would they have a functioning and not painful tail to begin with if it's disjointed from the spine? Sitting would still be possible, just they wouldn't be able to lean back without bringing the tail down between their legs. Otherwise, they'd be leaning a bit forward. Also... seats would be designed accordingly for such a thing.
Yes, but each breed is different and it would be too much money to get custom ones. That and I have seen skeletal designs for characters where it shows how the insides work with tails, but to each there own, that is the point of art, making things from your dreams come to life no matter if logically it works or not.
In a world of people with tails... they would pretty much have to come up with pants and seats that suit their needs...
and of course art give you the liberties to bend the rules... but past a certain point when the anatomy looks painful, that's all my mind sees and zones in on. It also starts to become "fuck anatomy, it's my style."

For something with wings there are still shirt-like options. It'd be something that drapes over the shoulders and has a button setup along the sides. It'd be like a vest you zip/button up on the sides, rather than the front.
I just plain don't like underwear/pants that aren't designed for tails with something that has a tail. It's so clashy looking.

...yeah. I wasn't trying to be a jerk as much as I'm tryin to say to
But here... it's not even a matter of "realism." I've seen many pieces where all the anatomy is pretty solid (cartoony-proportions and exaggerations taken into account) ... but then the tail just looks like it was stapled on, like and after-thought, especially when the pants are just plain human pants that have a disjointed tail dangling over it. It's distracting... and quite honestly, I find it very unimaginative.
Again, it not about realism... Exaggerations can exist in a piece and still look good anatomically. Stapled tails and human pants aren't that.

Lol, the anti-gravity E-cups really don't bother me. I don't mind exaggerations and long as they are consistent. Likewise with the big hands, feet and hips I draw. It doesn't have to be real as much as it should just be consistent to a design.
Mostly, I just want to see more artists make clothing and such that make sense for a person with a tail to wear, and not just staple the tail above human pants. :/

I agree with you except on the top right tail: that looks more like a butt plug.
The top right looks like the tail is connected at the bottom or center of a human tail bone, but I'd think the hip joint would be more along the lines of an animal to accommodate the tail bones compared to a humans hip and tail bone.
So for the top, I agree with your "design pants for tails" concept, just not where you're doing it. :P
For the thick tail comment, I totally agree. :D

People don't seem to draw tails correctly. =/
Yeah, back tails, like that DBZ villain Cell, just looks awkward. >_o Those tails look way too high up. But people still do them. Why? Apparently because they want those butts to be more prominent. This is all with absolute disregard to internal skeletal anatomy.
Then again, a lot of character designs I've seen throughout Fur Affinity don't make any sense. I've even seen some people drawing anthro snakes with legs and the entire length of a snake's body as the tail. Really, in a real snake, there are internal organs inside that huge "tail". A snake's actual tail comprises like only a fifth or sixth of the entire body length, which is surprisingly shorter than we think.
Anyway, your pic makes me LOL. XDDD

Snakes actually do have spots where limbs would be if they had them. The bones and all are still there, but just tiny and insignificant.
Again, it's mostly just a huge peeve of mine, but some people seem to ask like I'm holding people at gun point by voicing an opinion and trying to be a lil humorous (how ever crappy my humor in this might be). It's pretty silly.

About snakes, I see. Well, that's an interesting fact to know. =P
I can understand your frustration. As the tail is an exotic feature of the body humans don't have (unless you count the coccyx, aka "tailbone"), it is one feature of the body that people don't seem to draw correctly. So for those of us who do draw it correctly, it can be quite frustrating to see tails being drawn incorrectly and so awkwardly like that. =/
"WIDEN DEM FUGGEN HIPS!" That cracks me up! XDDD

you see. the thing about that is. It would be my style at that point.
lets look over to say adventure time or something. or loonytunes. should eyes really be that big? or arms that bendy? No.
can i draw it correctly. yeah sure I can. but i go for what looks better to me anyway.
i mean like for example i guess you could say that the dicks you draw are unrealistically big. and a dick that size would make it very painful/lightheaded" to get a boner with.
but hey "fuck anatomy its my style.
at the end of the day we are drawing cartoon animals. so does anatomy at a place like the tail that important.
on a side not i agree with your one on the dragons though. the other tail type looks painful. not to mention if on a human our tails came out at that specific spot the shape of our asses would be far different.

Well yeah, butts would be a bit different with a tail either way.
Regarding cartooning and such though. I find that there is a difference between exaggeration and just ill place anatomy. It's just like when characters have huge arms, hands, shoulders, hips, feet. It can still look good and make sense. A tail on the back just doesn't make sense because it's splitting the spine.
Something like Adventure Time as an example... that show is just go crazy with it's designs and concepts, living candy and all the other wacky stuff. It's a hard thing to really compare with any kind of realism when the whole show is so surreal. I don't think I've ever seen a weird tail there, but adventure time is consistently surreal.
Also, if you look at Looney Tunes, they actually put the tails in the right spot.
My main key though, is consistency. It just looks weird when anatomy is solid, but then the tail just seems to be treated like a burden, or after thought, to some artists that just staple it on the lower back.
Regarding my own work, the cocks aren't the only thing I exaggerate. I tend to make a lot of them have large proportions: hands feet, hips and all that. To sort of explain further. It's the difference between making big hands that start properly at the wrist.... or making normal hands that protrude out from half way down the forearm, disconnected from the wrist.
If it "looks good" to have a humanoid but on your character and the tail is just a burden? Why not just -not- give them a tail? Or... draw humans?
And yuh, the dragon/roo tail issue is the one that drives me to most bananas. At the very least, if they are gonna have a dragon/roo character with a humanoid booty, they should slim out the tail... otherwise it's just so clashy.

As someone who has become EXTREMELY familiar with my tailbone, thanks to a fun cyst, I gotta say that a mutation that creates a nonfunctional, fleshy nub of a tail over the flat portion and perpendicular to the actual bone doesn't really count. Take a feel back there. That bone ends/curves inward, some of the way into your butt cheeks.
Standing upright, the tail would start below that point and flow downward, and near the anus, as just about every kind of tail does.

Or people can draw how they please because that is what their mind's eye sees best and what makes them happy.
Just as you have what you believe is best for yourself, others do things how they thing it best for themselves as well.
There is nothing inherently wrong with either method of drawing things. To each their own.

And I can just.... not voice my thoughts too, I guess.
I mean, some people might think it's good anatomy to draw arms coming out of the rib cage... doesn't make it correct.
But yeah, I'm not trying to be a jerk, and I honestly don't appreciate people leaving comments that just try to dismiss me thoughts. "Anyone can draw what they want" has been beaten to death. :/

Yea but the way you're saying it "EVERYONE SHOULD DRAW HOW I SAY BECAUSE REASONS!" and honestly, that is absolutely the wrong way to look at things. One thing is to voice a distaste for a certain style of things, another is to flat out go "STOP DOING HOW YOU DO THINGS."
also, I'm not attacking you, and if you feel this is an attack and just "dismissing your thoughts" then maybe you should rethink things. You brought up interesting points, and not everyone's going to agree. I shared mine, and just like yours, it's just as valid.
Personally I like both styles, depending on the artist.

Ey, I'm all for straying away from the text book and really, if you don't like my thoughts on it, keep drawing how -you- like. I'm not forcing anyone to draw anatomy how I like it, and I exaggerate and skew things a fair amount myself.
I just think that "everyone can do what they want" is such a moot and beaten to death point. Yes, yes they can. This is known. o.o;; It's often used an an easy excuse or dismissal. I'd like some new points, is all.
This particular thing is just a major pet-peeve of mine. Like I've said before, it just seems that the tail is treated like an annoying afterthought that's just gettin i the way of the butt they'd like to draw... and honestly, I'd just rather see the tail not be drawin in that case. But hey, that's just me.
Also, I was trying to have some humor in this post... but this is the internet and people take things to seriously on it. I stress that people take my posts with a grain of salt...

Sorry for the double post, but I did have one other thought.
The main point of this was actually because I would actually like to see more artists actually come up with interesting pants designs for people that have tails, but again, usually the tail is just stapled way up above the waist and then just draw regular human pants. The tail is just a distraction at that point, it doesn't belong. It's just so disjointed from the spine at that point. x__x

In addition, I agree that while everyone has the right to come up with their own designs, normally it's just for artistic preference and convenience, a large portion of the community wants to be their fursona, but often get stuck at the tail because of convenience.
Most people simply don't want to chuck out their entire wardrobe just to suit their sona. Same with furniture and things like that.
The option of not going with a tail at all, would look strange and incomplete.
I take this as a compromise between a rock and a hard place, from having to refill your wardrobe to buying new tailored furniture which would cater to some furries, but not others.
What people don't tend to realise that society including an individual's height, garments and furniture was fundamentally built around the humans who naturally don't come with a tail.
Altering one's wardrobe and furniture would be inconvenient and often expensive as they may have to be specifically tailored to meet your needs.
So what do you do? I would summarise that sitting nude on the floor is the best option... Not all so great when you visit the wash room to relieve yourself.
There are so many arguments for the disjointed tail other than it looks strange... As for what's presented here, I completely agree.

It's apparently been 8 years and it's funny to occasionally see folks still find this.
While I draw tails the way I generally insist on doing them, I really don't care however other's draw them all that much, whatever makes folks happy. I know I end up breaking some anatomy in certain art of mine one way or another, either by accident or intended. I kinda just treat it like a personal meme at this point. Hahah.
But yeah, I understand folks have their reasons. It's art, it's fun. Whatever folks like. I just like proper tail-butt.

I actually got linked to it by one of the other commenters here.
I am actually thankful that I was linked to this resource as I definitely needed it.
I have and always will ask artists to draw creatures anatomically correct because it's a particular style of body that appeals to me the most.

Maybe the thing is something may be old but if it gets the point across maybe there isn't a reason to change it?
Having said that you do need to do a nude and a clothed variant of both thin tailed creatures and wide tailed creatures to demonstrate from multiple angles how the tail connects to the butt, where the rectum is compared to the tail etc...
So maybe it is time to expand the scope.

This image gave me a light chuckle, I have to say, but I also can say that there are valid points in these arguments. Most people I've seen tend to draw the tail too high up on the body. Heck, even I was guilty of that for a while. I might still be even now, honestly, I need to double check some of my more recent artwork. ^^;
I will say that the tail seems a tad... low, in the example image of proper tail-wear, on the top right. As the artist you see the anatomy that was behind it, but as a viewer I see what looks like a tail coming out of the character's rectum, not above it. I am familiar with the human tailbone and how it extends down into the bum, but thinking from an actually tailed standpoint rather than a vestigial one, the tail would come smoothly out from the body pretty much right where the anal crack would start, just under the actual waist line (So somewhere between the "bad" example and the "good" example). As the tail is meant to help provide balance, being much lower than that would throw off a humanoid creature's center of gravity and force them to lean forwards a bit to compensate, a pose that would likely look a bit awkward in most situations.
I would personally say that the easiest way to make undergarments or pants for a tailed character is actually to place the tail hole just a tad underneath where a belt would go. At that location it's much close to the base of the tail and allows for more free range of movement. The only reason I can see the standard human garments fitting is if it's a female character in a bikini that is worn low in the back to attract attention.
Your portrayal of the proper dragon hip size and width compared to the size of the tail is spot on, as the thicker the base of the tail the wider the hips. I'm honestly embarrassed that I haven't been drawing dragon tails this way on anthro characters. Of course, this does widen the stance of the character a tad, but it looks better than the stock standard "pin the dragon tail on the human" I've been seeing so much of.

Well I do make my critters lean forward when walking because of the tail's counter balance. Some of them almost have a kind of raptor-like run with the huge, wide-hipped tails.
Bootyhole should be right under the tail pretty much. I get what you mean. I should have drawn the top-right one pointing a little more downward at the base and transitioning a bit more smoothly into the tail. I do generally give all of my characters wider hips to compensate for the tail, even for thinner tails since most tailed creatures tend to have more space between there legs then humans. I still think my tail placement on the top-right is correct, I just could have shown it a bit better.
The only thing I really detest is when the tail is stapled up on the bottom of the back. It drives me nuts. Hahah.

Yup..
..Sadly I'm guilty to the odd butt+tail placement.. :F http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16059586/ I was sorta eager to draw rumps at the time I drew that.. XP

Bottom example speaks to me heavily. I have a tail fetish so I find tails, especially long thick ones, to be extremely sexy and arousing especially when I try to imagine what it would feel like to have a tail, would feel soooooo good. But I absolutely HATE tails that have no flow, where the base just looks tacked on in favor of showing off the butt. YOur second example in the bottom is PERFECT when it comes to how I want sexy tails to look and thankfully the first example is really only prevalent in furry art. Basically, bottom row, first example is a turn off, second example sexy as hell. Everyone needs to draw tails like that, thanks for this.
I'm not an artist and don't really have the drive to learn but if I did I would be drawing sooo many tails. Some of my favorite large tails in games are Mewtwo's tail, Charizard's tail, Lizardman's tail from Soul Calibur, Renekton's tail from LoL, and any similar kind of tail. Long thick ones are the best, especially when they don't look tacked on (Thankfully more often than not in games they don't look tacked on)
This thing is super olkd and in my scraps, and STILL gets occasional hits. I should make a new one. Hahah.
At the end of the day, people can do whatever they want. I just generally have a strong nit-pick about spine-breaking tails that are placed on the lower back when the coccyx ends right above the bootyhole. Even if you decide not to widen the hips, it's generally a good idea to remodel the butt to accommodate having a tail. The human butt is the way it is because of the lack of tail, and is actually a key reason in humans not needing a tail for up-right posture.
WIth thinner tails (excluding floof, just the meat), perhaps you don't need to widen the hips, but adjust the butt area. THICK TAILS on the other hand, I'm adamant require it. Critters with thick tails then to have wide butts with the legs further apart to accommodate that anatomy. Kangaroos and most lizards are a good example of this.
Having pants taylored to tails, makes sense in a world where sentient critters with tails exist, because tails again, don't start at the top of the hip, they start at the bottom of it, it's a continuation of the spine. So I generally like it when I see designs in stuff that take note of that and you see a 3rd "pant leg" for the tail in the back.
At the end of the day though, do what ya want. Ain't gotta please my picky butt. People can choose to express their creativity in any way that pleases themselves first. This is meanly a suggestion from my viewpoint.
Hold on, IRL people need to buy clothing that's specifically tailored to fit their specific dimensions because it's harder to change their anatomy to match their ideals compared to changing how large the clothes are made to approximately suit a person's anatomy.
In this universe, we design the environment around us, this pretty much includes everything from clothes to furniture to housing.
I have never really hard of a universe where an individual's anatomy has to change in order to suit a designer's ideals.
To design an individual's body so that it can fit a particular piece of clothing... I apologise but this reality sounds very bizzare to me.
