Lyria Fadia was a Displacer Beast gained as a familiar by a *truly* powerful wizard, who used his mastery of an obscure art of magic called Vivimancy to sculpt her into an attractive female who was mentally his equal- She eagerly became his student, His fellow mage, and eventually, lover- However, a great cataclysm occurred- the gods noticed that Vivimancy's mastery over the living and healing had started luring away individuals from their worship to worship the Vivimancers, or in other instances, become secular, and both in very large numbers.

The gods, young at that time, did something that most of them now regard as "A massive overreaction", out of fear. They Shattered arcane magic, depriving it to access to the healing arts, leaving it so only their priests could heal (and bards, which they didn't regard as a threat), and slaughtered all the Vivimancers they could find- which was, being gods, almost all of them. They regret their actions, these days, and leave the remaining vivimancers unmolested- who are the only ones who can practice- and with extreme difficulty, teach- their obscure arts. However, most of the survivors now regard the Gods- even the good ones- with a serious dose of mistrust and fear.

Lyria was one of the survivors, having managed to disguise herself as an inanimate tree before the gods noticed her. However, her master was not as lucky. Having awakened from her floral slumber after hundreds of years, she's coping with a world being vastly different, full of gods, and in which her magic is strange and misunderstood.

As for Vivimancy itself, its the inverse of Necromancy: Control over life, and life processes- Essentially the magical equivalents of Medicine, Genetic engineering, and reproductive sciences.
