The only member of the genus Alle and a breeding in the high Arctic region, the Dovekie or Little Auk feasts on fish and crustaceans that they find by swimming underwater. They are the main ingredient in a traditional Inuit food called a kiviaq, which is an intact seal skin stuffed with 300-500 auks, sealed up with grease and fat and left to ferment.
