Those bristles almost seem to be exploding out of that back. I know you've used that...technique (might not be the term here, but I can't think of a better one) before, but it applies so well to porcupines that it's like it was designed for them.
Liking that contrast between that undefined spiky mass just radiating out of his back and then the more refined, half-turned figure.

woah, your redention of the porcupine's spikiness is great! it truly gets the feeling of a porcupine across. having a friend who's got a porcupine character too, it's always been a bit difficult to get the quills just right.
but then again, this specific redention wouldn't look good if i did it. your technique allows for such freedom when it comes to making new textures and ideas of representations.
