that's interesting. i wouldn't have picked out his species but now that you mention it i can see it. it's nice to see them not just cute and chubby for once. good shading and nice sketchwork underneath.

yeah, I had to experiment with his look quite a lot. I decided that I wanted to make a tanuki, but I wanted him to look more serious than the species is often portrayed in anime and such. ^_^
