In German, the comprable phrase for "lucky duck" is "lucky mushroom".
At work over the last two weeks, we had four seven-hour meetings. They were meant to be participatory meetings; but there were about five people out of about 15 who attended and just sat there silently like a bunch of mushrooms.
They were such lucky mushrooms to be there!
