This implies all sorts of some repressed secondary split in her brain. Something that she herself isn't aware or in control of, but this second brain can use her senses and hands to screw with her in an irritating fashion that she has to somehow always be attuned to and be aware of...

Yeah, I remember an episode of "House MD" that had a guy who had that. It was caused by some brain surgery he had had a few years earlier, if I remember right. Quite a fascinating phenomenon!
In this case here, though, it's probably caused more by "Rule of Funny" than anything else. (But it's still a fascinating phenomenon, isn't it?)
