The former was what I intended when drawing it, portraying Egypt and Levant inspired region of the west in my 'world'. But then, it doesn't matter if you view it as the latter since my 'world' is mere patchwork of shameless copies of real world history and events just renamed differently.

There is no shame in that. I did the same for the Asheru stories. Borrowed a lot from late Roman and early Byzantine history.
