I have been watching Wheel of Fortune for as far back as i can remember, the earliest memory i have of watching the show was with my grandmother and aunt when i was about 2 years old. Back when Vanna was still turning letters before the current puzzle board was introduced, that is what started it all for me. I have been watching it pretty much regularly since then. I still love watching the old episodes and the newer ones to this day.
(I will continue to watch it as long as Pat and Vanna are still going!!!)

I love that show! I've watched it for as long as I can remember, and like you,
CaptainN1994, I remember when Vanna turned the letters. When they introduced the new puzzle board, I cried my eyes out. I miss it. But I understand now why that was done; it was to save the production crew a good hour and lots of money, because time is money.

That's why YouTube is my TV. If you're interested, the pilot episodes are up.

Not forgetting of course that Chuck Woolery was the first host, which was a wise decision, because Merv Griffin discovered Edd was drunk during the tapings, and was discovering to be rehearsing which letters were vowels before the show.

Thus, the origins of the NBC daytime hit that because the best game show ever (though some sources argue The Price is Right is the greatest game show of all time, and rightfully so) helped ensure its longevity. Including the daytime show, Wheel has been on our screens for 41 years in a row. (TPIR ran from 1956-65 and again since 1972.)

Yup i have seen the Bazaar pilot before, and i can see why they ultimately went a different route later on. The set looked more like a ladies department store than a game show set. The three ladies' constant screaming got annoying very fast, and the overall setup and gameplay was very dull and would not have worked in the long run.
The second pilot with Edd was indeed closer to the show as it eventually became, though you can tell that he didn't seem to quite have it due to the aforementioned drunkenness including the other things. It was indeed good that they brought Chuck back in the end.

I think i read a while back that someone somewhere does have a master or recorded copy of Wheel's January 6, 1975 premiere, probably stored in an archive or something like that.
It would definitely be cool if that does get surfaced at some point, as well as a few others like Susan Stafford's last episode as hostess/letter turner from October 1982. Since those have never been available before in the show's trading circuit.
