Living off Ecuador and Peru and into the Galapagos archipelago despite their name, the Waved Albatross or Galapagos Albatross has a unique courtship ritual in which both partners clack beaks, bow rapidly, and usually in perfect unison. Despite their silly dance, they are most famous for their flight with the ability to fly for hours with a technique called dynamic soaring, in which a bird repeatedly crosses the border between air masses of differing velocities. However, they are critically endangered and constantly waning due to longline fishing, disease, disruption from tourists, and other threats.
