There was an incident, shortly before I returned from my first active-duty assignment, where an A-10 pilot came in a bit too fast on a rain-slick runway with his anti-skid system (just like anti-lock brakes in a car) turned off.
The pilot ejected and was found relatively intact in a village a few km away; the aircraft came to rest on the golf course, nose-down in a sand trap with the engines still running.
I wish I'd thought to save a copy of that week's base newspaper...
