wow this is beautiful! Which is the alchemy:photoshop proportion here?

I started by tracing a photo/linework in Alchemy. Most of that is hidden under Photoshop.

After tracing, I had to tweak the shapes to restore volume to the subject and keep it all from looking stale. An experienced artist can always tell when something is traced without understanding the subject!

I kinda figured there was some tracing tho i was more interested in knowing hom much work went on this on alchemy and photoshop (besides it's a topic some artists don't like being brought up for some reason;) ). Nevertheless this turned out awesome. Do the tattos have anything to do with Tomas' from The tree of life?

If "Tree of Life" refers to "The Fountain", and "Tomás" refers to the protagonist of the movie, then it is indeed a direct reference! The Fountain is my favourite movie ever!

yeah that's it XD i translated back to english the italian translation of the movie and we don't use accents in the middle of words anymore, so sorry for the mistakes. Great movie indeed tho!

Even though that's my favourite movie, I had no idea the conquistador's name was Tomás. I've seen it eight or so times, too. Wow.

Well the movie is pretty overwhelming expecially if , like it happened to me, it strikes something deep on the emotional level. Many details get lost in the phantasmagoria. That's actually also why so many people preferred to strike it down as nonsensical phylosophical mumbojumbo. It's actually a movie that gets under your skin more and more every time you watch it again and start noticing things and detailes that escaped you before. Also the soundtrack gives me constant goosebumps lol.

I wasn't even sure I liked The Fountain the first time I watched it. The second time I was sure I liked it. And by the fourth time I knew it was my favourite movie.

This'll sound dumb, but I normally avoid "skin tones" and the very idea of the term "skin tones" because skin could be literally any colour. That being said, this is one of the few images I actually tried to render skin out in detail. Glad it passed!

This is brilliant! I'm not sure if you meant to but even without intent you've conveyed emotion so perfectly. It reminded me of Hugh Jackman's character in The Fountain http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDR.....20PDVD_010.jpg I've never really seen the film but from the music I can only imagine the emotion in the film. Great work :)

this is extremely gorgeous, I always appreciate and enjoy when people darw hands this great :D The attention to detail in the face is my favorite part, it's awesome how the rest of the body looks still and but there's a lot of stuffs going on on the face. This is very beautifully done. It's cool to see people I recognize done with your signature 'alchemy' flair to it.
Though I have to say you always seem to have such a happy and excited disposition about yourself, and here you have such an intense facial expression!

Most people on FA will only see me during art conventions, which is a bit outside of my element. I'm very excited to meet old and new friends at a con, but that's a far cry from the normal facial expressions I make! Next time we're in a discussion and I'm not talking, I'll normally have a condition referred to as "resting bitch face".

Yesssssssss I fucking looove thisssss. Nice energy, greens and reds, noice. It's awesome to see how you keep the energy in digital painting.

Love the work you did with complimentary green and red, and those tertiary greys add so much to the piece. The skintones are lively without overwhelming the rest of the composition (they fit in quite nicely) and I love the detail of the tendons and vein in the arm/hand. I'm not so good at explaining myself, but I really like the coloration/makeup? under the eye area, and I like the tones you used skin-wise. it's kinda nifty, and wouldn't mind knowing how you figured out what colors to use. I like how it all has a dark olive sort of feel to it, even with the warm red added. It's kind of cool that you can use opposite colors and make the coolness/warmth work together. I still haven't entirely figured that out. Also really like the details in the arms/veins and the subtle skin texture differences along the forehead/brow. The bg is kind of cool too for being kind of simple, since it reminds me of something I can't quite place.

TL;DR: Really well done, I'm really impressed by your skills in this image and it looks really good in my opinion.

Thanks for the compliments. I gravitate towards either complimentary colour schemes, or primary colours. I also like flexing greys as far as they can go. My low-light image reference had the final say on what colours I chose.

Lovely. Reminds me of classic portraits and a little of Egon Schiele's work in a grungy sort of way.

Huh! Never would have tied in Schiele to the aesthetic, but I definitely have the anatomy to be in one of his pictures!

Maybe that's what it is. x) Schiele's lanky men with shadowy eyes and large hands, perhaps that's what reminded me of it. Either way, lookin' good. ;)
