Weighing up to 15 pounds, the Western Capercaillie is the largest of the grouse family. Famous for their courtship display, with the cock beginning a song at dawn, fanning his tail feathers and throwing his head to the sky. Only near the end of this ritual do the females arrive to make “begging” noises for copulation.
