Winter is gentle. Winter is wise. Winter is cold, but a hot cup of cocoa can fix that.
There's this song I wrote to a Drake beat two years ago but never recorded. I may or may not record it. This picture reminded me of the song. The song goes like this:
(starting at 0:10 on the beat)
Once upon a time
I'd fell into a world without motion
Where sequoias slumbered under sheets of snow rendered frozen
There, an enchanted forest veiled in winter's clutches 'til dawn
And in a subtle voice, I'd heard it whisper somethin year long
But as I ventured toward its heart- heard it pulsing this rhythm
Feeling its hymn emerse, I fell submersed and fallen as victim
Then saw a glance, and, lost in a trance, I stopped for a second
Enthralled in gaze of this beautiful spirit, lost of expression
She darted back, yonder boughs and through the olive tree dew
Where leaves were thicker, then she whispered, "You could follow me through"
So I did; Then we ran amongst the whistling grove
Until the passage opened up above a crystalline cove
Where the creatures thrived and basked in shimmering lakes of fluorescent waters
My heart and soul had lusted to stay in her presence longer
Seeing her sparkle as the forest ceiling shed its rays of gold
And so I begged her, "Let me stay", but the tone of her face was cold
Whispering,
"I hate to see you go but we must part;
'Cause now your vessel calls you back aboard the Noah's Ark
As this land awakes, the music of its call reposes tune
The snow is thawed; and rays of sun have shown that dawn approaches soon,
But don't be woeful, as I promise no farewell forever
One day the light will set, and night will let us be together
Luna's solace must now retreat as Cinder's sun comes forth
Again, I promise we will meet; when Winter comes once more"
-
So I spent my time awaiting all my time to pass;
Wasting the hours, and the sand to waste its hourglass
Contemplating the time we could have from morning into slumber
'Till I fell back to the frozen world of Boreas' tundra
There I met her once more; becoming cumbered in her trance
And amidst the forest floor glowing by Lunar skies, we danced
We danced to flickering stars and timber wolves watching beside us
Howling together 'til she halted, then the grove locked into silence
She gazed at me a second then said to me, "Take my hand,
Follow me through the wood, where it brood the tallest tree branch"
Holding hands, we'd ran to where this tree towered toward the sky
Climbed up to the top, and I, looking down, was sorta surprised
'Cause from the height- I saw all of the tundra's vibrance;
Wonderful blue, colorful hues, plus a full view of the world
Staring into her eyes, which had shone dull, pewterish gold
I said, "I know that I should go because the sun's arising,
But no,
I just can't let you go, 'cause you and me were destined
Please, when the sunlight signals dawn, let's run the opposite direction
We could chase the moon, and morning's grasp would never catch us
Just take my hand like I did yours, and we'll live happily ever after,
Just a chapter in our story now, if you would let me;
Take us back to the night, tonight, and if you will, I'm ready"
She said, "I will," so we left the stage as the sun entered
Farewell the crucial clutch of summer; close we come, winter
-
Our run, with every step taken had strengthened night's presence
And as we pushed further, I whispered, "It won't be so long,
'Til I'm awake with you forever, by the sky's crescent
Where we stay dreaming, in a region death of sleep won't come"
The full moon nearing close, released away my soul's restraints
She started running slower, but it only fueled the fervor
Slowing pace, I pulled her forward, but she pulled away
Saying, "I'm sorry, but I can't run with you any further;
No matter how we run, to shun the sun, we'll still be pressed
And if we never stop, then come a thought, when will we rest?
It's true, the times of day are pained, because I'm all alone
But this forest- it's not the place for you to call a home
All along I think I'd known, every word she'd spoke was truth
I spoke, "But truly, I'm alone when I'm not close to you,"
She simply laughed, and then her image lost amongst a flicker
A drain of conscious from unconscious, as I heard her whisper;
-
"But don't be woeful, as I promise no farewell forever
One day the light will set, and night will let us be together
Luna's solace must now retreat as Cinder's sun comes forth
Again, I promise we will meet; when Winter comes once more"
