Max isn't having a good time in La Paz. This photograph was taken for an ad I placed trying to find him a better home after he jumped off the loading ramp after I was trying to scrape is teeth.
Max has been a pain in the ass for a while now.
And in desperation, I tried to express his prostate, which I palpitated and found to be swollen. As it turns out, it wasn't his prostate, but his anal glands. So all along, Max was being a pain in the ass for good reason...because he had a pain in his ass.
Ad is down, LJ entry deleted, and Max has another chance at continuing to be my dog. But if his stubborn ways continue, and if he doesn't learn to trust me (he swam AWAY from me when I called him), then he's gone.
And if ANY of you think I'm cruel, I invite you to take Max off my hands and report to everyone your success at taking care of him; because I guarantee you won't be able to handle him.
Check my journal for an invitation by the way...

Clever viewers (yeah right...) would notice that my windless is bent. Even more clever viewers (fat fucking chance of that) would notice that my anchoring setup is wrong; that the hawser is between the windlass and Sampson post, which is what caused the windlass shaft to bend. Finally, halfway intelligent viewers would have figured out that I almost certainly already lost my windlass.
he is a cutie though <3
and yeah - dogs can but some giant butts some times -_-
Mine was a giant pain, but I managed to work trough the problems one at a time. Or one she solved herself - she kept running away, and one day she chewed over a re-inforced rope used to anchor boats, ran away, and got stuck on the outside of a fence, between the fence and a steep cliff. she never ran away after I rescued her from that. Last time she was a butt was when she got a nasty infection in a molar, but I luckily noticed it pretty early since I used to brush her teeth at least twice a week ^^
He looks like a high energy dog though, so probably a lot worse than my couch potato dog

Max was a rescue, from people who never trained him. He never developed the fundamental aspects of a well behaved dog and will never develop them. The best I can do is to attempt to modify his behavior through hormone suppression; an experimental therapy I have been conducting, but which is really difficult for me because it means being an overbearing asshole to my dog. It's difficult, especially with my brain damage, to see that what I am doing is to his hormones, not him. I don't see it, and I have a difficult time taking the perspective necessary, a perspective I witnessed when I had the opportunity to observe wolf behavior.
I'll continue to work with him. I'm adding onion to his diet to see if that helps motivate his anal glands. I'll likely give him some caffiene to stimulate them as well. Onions, by the way, are medicinal for me as they motivate mucous and help the lymphatic fluids as well. This action is necessary for me, as I was forced to remember, because I have issues with constipation because of my diet (or rather, because I cheat too much.) I stopped onions due to diahrrea and then got constipated because I forgot to start them up again.
I have given onions to the dogs before and it immediately gives them diahrrea. This is a good thing for an anal gland issue; especially one that could very well lead to a terrible form of cancer; which Max may already have (hopefully not...)
Glad I'm not the only one that understands that dogs can be pains in the ass too. I'm so tired of everyone just assuming. I left that shit behind me when I left the states. Glad to hear from an intelligent American.

ah I see. Yeah I have always had "sane" dogs, so while they can be a pain, it have gone over with patience, I know of a few unstable ones though - so good luck and at least thank you for giving him a chance!
It sounds really stupid, but I noticed the biggest things with my doggies was just to walk them more, I even had to get a floating vest for the last one as she would exhaust herself swimming and just go underwater - but she was a pure angel after having a bath so it was a good investment.
And it sound like you know what you are doing^^ just be a bit aware that onion contains something that will also kill dog's immune system - so it could make him really really ill as well. I didn't know and I never had a problem when I accidentally fed my dog onions, but it was a minute amount compared to her body mass (she was 150lbs). Though not an American (I really want to visit one day, btu not live there ^^;) I will rather take it as a compliment to my English (it being a 2nd language and all :P)

I'll check up on onions and toxins for canines.
I'd love to speak to you in Norwegian; but alas I started learning Swedish instead...Norway was to be my first destination. I had decided on Sweden and kept Norway as a backup. My family are from Norway and it was very incredible being able to see the family farm (not likely still occupied by my relatives, but who knows) by simply putting the Norwegian family name into Google Maps. Lars is the name by the way. My Swedish relations were from just over the border adjacent to where the Lars farmhouse is located.
And sorry for assuming you were an American...

Neat! There is actually a Norwegian tv show going called "all for Norway" that takes US-citizens whose ancestors migrated to the US from Norway a hundred years ago or so, through different challenges - to see their old family farmsteads, and then the winner gets to meet their Norwegian part of the family. I shouldn't admit it, but I do watch it a bit for a ego stroke too *sigh* I guess it's not a crime to be proud of my own country (even if there are parts I dislike). Sweden is a cool place too, a little to "big" for me, as I prefer the smaller cities over here though ^^;
and no worries! I am using a US based webpage afterall :P I'm even guilty of assuming other people to be Americans myself, I guess it's an interweb thing

Max died April 1, 2015.
I saw a veterinarian, who pointed out that Max had fleas and could not itch them, likely a source of pain and discomfort leading to him trying to bite me.
I gave him Spinosad, the flea pill.
It killed him.
He bled to death from his stomach after not eating for 5 days. The flea pill acts through a mechanism called Conditioned Taste Aversion, of which I am an expert on, and one of only a handful in the world. Not only did the pill conditon him to his food, but to my feeding him.
Please, if you use the flea pill, use a different bowl, feed at a different time and in a different place with a food you'll never feed your dog again. The pill may be physiologically "safe" but it is not mentally safe. It kills.
