Or, to be more exact, he's a Southern Tristanian Tree-Dragon. Iggy lives on the fictional planet of Talmezzar (of which some of you may be familiar with, if you know me from elsewhere), he's the sidekick of the original (male) Artemis. He's essentially a wise-cracking little guy who isn't very strong, but can be wily.
Southern Tristanian Tree-Dragons hail from the continent of Tristan, which is a very humid and wet and covered with dense jungle. In the context of the story, Tristan has been rapidly becoming uninhabitable, supposedly due to the lack of guarding deity (which all the other continents have). Native creatures, like the Tree-Dragons, have been quickly dying off and have needed to be wrangled by sanctuaries to prevent extinction. Iggy met Artie in a Tree-Dragon sanctuary on Artemis' home continent of Kiru.
I redesigned the Tree-Dragons a bit (I'll post a more thorough reference when I stop being lazy XP). They're very small, imagine this fellow sitting on your shoulder comfortably, and you might have some idea of their size. They have small wings that flap very fast, a bit like a hummingbirds. The males have poofy hair in a variety of colors, used to attract mates. The dragons themselves come in a wide spectrum of colors, from earthy browns like Iggy here, to flamboyant pinks and neon greens. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the colors, except for the fact that Tree-Dragons have no natural predators on Tristan so they had no biological reason to develop only natural colors.
