Surprise gift for Gryffins! :) Out of currently 1,838 watchers, MS Excel chose
gryffins as the winner of the random free art gift thing! Congratulations Gryffins! :D
I saw on his user page that he likes soda, so I sneakily asked him what his favorite was, and he said Jolt (although he always drinks Pepsi!). So, we have Gryffins chilling on a beach scene, which I decided to do since he had another beach scene picture of his character in his gallery, and I chose the same outfit, as well. Enjoy hun!
I wonder who will be the winner next time!

The lineart on this is really crisp. The color/background is simple, but effective!
Not safe for work link:
I don't want to jump to conclusions, but did you use this Moonstalker image as a reference?

I might have, but I can't remember. XD I look at a lot of artist's for different cool pose ideas when I'm drawing a blank. :) Nothing wrong with that, btw, so conclusion jumping is okay! He's one of my fav artists, so I might have remembered that pose and drew something similar.
LOL XD Oh god, I got flamed awhile back for referencing another pose from another artist. I was like "Umm... you can use poses as references... ya know." XD It was merely annoying. I think I do remember seeing his gryphon and going, "OOH! Cute leg pose!" :D But yeah, that would be the only reference. I filled in the torso and stuff as I saw fit for the pic. I don't think you have to give props if the pose is like... mostly different. I'm not sure, really. I know you have to get props if the pose is VERY similar. I should read up on this. D:
On a technical note (once again, not to be a douchebag) the feet are what gave it away. The feet/legs go beyond just an uncanny similarity (to the point that I noticed it outside of a loose interpretation), so it's completely at your discretion to announce use of reference.
You've already seen a metric ton of bad furry art that wreaks of poor poses. This pose isn't bad, but half of it was done before. You can learn from someone's art—please do!—just know that you'll get so much more by going out there and risking over following a reference closely.

Yeah, I'll make a reference note. Usually what I do is I go, "Oh hey, cool pose! I like the angle, perspective, whatever" and I sit down and practice at such pose. Then I usually add something different to the pose and finish it if I want or it just goes in the ol' art dump in a big cardboard box. XD That's what happened in this case. I was just practicing a feet pose because I loved the angle and I was like "Hmm, this would make a great gift pic if I made the dude holding a soda for Griffins."
