A confusion to taxonomists everywehere, the Bananaquit is a passerine bird that may be of the tanager family or Thraupidae family, though it’s still up for debate. They are a nectar feeder, but sometimes collect nectar without pollinating a flower by puncturing it from the side. They have the nickname of “sugar bird” because of their love for feeders stocked with granular sugar.
