well, hermaphrodite is actually an offensive term. humans are never true hermaphrodites. snails are, however. I'm Intersex, which is a collection of sex-types between male and female.

I must also point out that I'm not assuming anything. I'm disregarding gender all-together, because it is clearly unimportant in this story (and frankly, I think gender is an entirely arbitrary social construct, anyway). and I have to insist that my not claiming to know Nicky's gender (or whether she even has a gender) is not falsely assuming diddly squat!! I can;t falsely asume something but not assuming anything. that's nonsense.

Let's not try and make hermaphrodite the new N-word, it's not offensive on its own, it's offensive when someone is trans-gender and is inappropriately labeled as such, usually through ignorance to the term. "Hermaphrodite" has never held a demeaning or derogatory inflection like "tranny" and "trap" do, and though while it could one day be the new "retarded" (medical term turned offensive), I don't think forcing it into such prematurely is helping anyone's case. A hermaphrodite is someone or something that has both male and female reproductive organs. If you want to call that intersexed, go right ahead; but "intersexed" is a blanket term that can mean one thing to some people (like a hermaphrodite's dual-reproductives) or something different to others (being partially trans-gendered or born with male genitals but the body of a female.)

except fuck you. that's not how it fucking works. you don't just get to be waved of the responsibility for having said something rude by saying it was a joke. whether it was a joke or not, it was rude. and you could have just apologized and that would be fine, but instead you are being dismissive about it.

aso, "hermaphrodite" is and has been an offensive term. that's not new. the term is Intersex, which yes is a blanket term. and there are no Intersex people who have both sexual reproductive organs. that's not how it works. a penis and a vagina are literally the same organ, just in different shape. they are made of the exact same tissues, with teh exact same parts. likewise, the gonads are the same, too, whether they are ovaries or testacles. I happen to have a set of testes AND a set of ovaries, but there is nobody who has both a penis and a vagina. some people have ambiguous genitalia, however.

now, you can either own up to the fact that you were unaware of how offensive it was, and explain that you didn't mean anything rude by it, apologize, and we can move past this. or you can instead continue to act like my feelings as a marginalized person faced with somebody armed with misinformation and a superiority complex doesn't matter, and then I'll just block you so that I don't have to deal with you anymore. which will it be?

Hermaphrodites don't exist, so if I say hermaphrodite, don't be offended, because you're not one, because they don't exist.

If you're trans-gendered, I'll call you that. If you prefer to be called something different, I'll call you whatever the hell you want to be called.

But don't take a name for something that doesn't exist as offensive when you're not being called that name.
