They're a dragon-like alien species I made for a worldbuilding project. :D

Yes and no. They are a third gender, both "male" and "female" parts for their species are present, but neither are viable. These guys are called Nulls, and can't have kids, but hold a certain place in their society. Being Null is a choice, not something one is born into.

Yup, they p much have a super condensed awful puberty when they are the equivalent of ~20 yrs old. Until then they are considered genderless. At that time, certain things can be eaten to develop either male or female secondary sex characteristics. If nothing is eaten, the body randomly goes one way or the other at the end of the development and you have a /really/ bad 1-2 day period where lower parts sort out what exactly is going on down there.
Becoming null only happens by eating very certain diet and making a plea to their god (who lives among them on their world) during that puberty period. Because of the implications of becoming null, it's never something that's forced on anyone by "random chance" and has to be a fully conscious choice.

Though, that being said... I'm not so sure there's anything with this I would particularly "like" more than any other species. I mean... yeah, so they are "genderless" - but it kinda suggests that the genitals should still determine, with the "no"-thingie in the crotch.
And I mean, it's not like I am of this species, nor that I could be or would be too curious to be. I mean, I am strongly against gender roles - but I just do not see how something like this would tackle the problem, if that's what you thought I might get out of it.

No offense to the artist of course, this is great for what it is. And no offense to you either, my dear friend. I'm just explaining how my complicated mess of a mind works like. XP Sorry...

I know this is really late, but I didn't see this until now! I just wanted to say that genitals don't equal gender or sex in this species in the way I assume you're referring to (cissexism, etc). In fact, trans issues are a BIG deal in the worldbuilding/story surrounding these characters.
I simply put the "NO" as a slightly amusing way to censor the image so it's sfw for use as a ref.
