The story starts here folks! Please comment which path you would like to take at the end and the most after 1-3 weeks will be determining what I will be writing next!
You are a Sandshrew. Nothing extraordinary or different about you really. Well, as far as you know. You are currently just waking up within a small underground cave that you carved out of the earth. The tunnel you originally came down was now filled in with soil from digging and kicking back dirt with your claws and hind legs. You can feel a dull ache within the muscles beneath your tough skin from your hard work, but you felt satisfied with what you had done the previous evening.
The smell of the soil surrounding you was calming as you closed your eyes. The action barely made a difference in the lighting as you opened them once more. You stand up onto your hind legs, shaking a bit of dust from your backside and tail, before dragging your claws against the earth above you. It took you a second as you made a niche large enough for you, but you soon wiggled up into the beginning of a new tunnel.
Your right paw soon breaks through the surface of the ground. A ray of warm, pale yellow light poured through the hole and against your face. You squint against the light as it momentarily blinds you. With a squeak and a wiggle, you haul yourself halfway out of the tunnel.
It had to have been at least midday; the warmth of the air surrounding you, a clear blue sky up above with not a single cloud noticeable, and all seemed peaceful. You squeaked again to yourself as you dragged yourself up and out. You shook more loam from your hide before sitting back onto your hind legs and getting a good look around at your newly acquired surroundings.
Your ears flicked ever-so slightly at the sound of a group of Pidgeys hiding amongst the trees. Your head tilted curiously as you caught a glimpse of the back end of a Zigzagoon. A Spinarak with its Ariados parent were perched on their webbing that was stretched between two large branches. You processed the obvious for a moment longer before letting out a low squeak. You are much farther from your home in the desert than you thought. As well, following your tunnel was not an option due to your strange digging habits of closing yourself in as you dig.
A low whine sounded deep within your chest before your ears lowered close to your skull. You immediately regret not paying more attention to where you were going last night, or, at the very least, had brought along another from your small pack of other Sandshrew. You heaved a heavy sigh. You raised your head a bit to look around for a dry spot that was in the sunlight so you could stop yourself for a moment and think.
There! You could see a worn down boulder farther into the open area of grass. Not only did it seem like a wonderful place to lay out in the sun and calm down, but it was also enough to get a bit of a better look around. You hurried over to the stone then clambered atop it. Your claws made small notches within the rock as you partially struggled your way on top.
You sat your rear onto the sun-warmed stone; your tail swaying slightly with content at the familiar feel. It made you feel just a bit safer. Soon, you curled up with a sigh and your eyelids became heavy.
Minutes passed. The minutes soon became an hour as you sat in your content silence before some new sounds alerted you. You quickly sat upright and looked about for its source with renewed alert.
You chose to investigate the unknown sound!
Part Two coming soon!
