Surprised I didn't comment on this before: the unique color of the wings is caused by a genetic mutation in her that causes her to naturally produce titanium sesquioxide; this leaves the skin under her top layer (which is actually very fine, and smooth, soft-metal feathers) iridescent blue/purple.
