The last character I created for a Pathfinder game was this guy, Gwain, an Alseid monk. What's an alseid? A deertaur elf, basically. I'm not a huge fan of taurs (nothing against them either), but this seemed like it would be fun to try. And I got some good stat rolls, so I made him a monk. My DM hated him right from the start because he absolutely could not imagine any kind of tauric creature pulling off martial arts maneuvers. Well guess what? Despite being a "mediocre" class, he couldn't do nearly as much damage as the others in the party, and he hadn't yet reached the full potential of his build, he took on an optimized boss single-handedly and won. He took on another boss with another party member and himself near death and won. He single-handedly turned the tide of battle at least twice in the last dungeon when he delivered stunning, blinding punches to a rakshasa and a powerful demon armed with kukris. And the only thing that stopped him was an impossible boss fight on top of an entire dungeon's worth of traps and encounters.
That's a legacy to be proud of, and I'll be hard-pressed to make a character that can match that.
