Lol me too. My 1st version hovercraft was practically an airboat with a huge motor and prop to push it across the pavement and it worked pretty well in the snow. I got it out once at a local fly in and people were asking me for the design plans of it. In all 3 of my hovercraft I have never used a single number or measurement during the build and design phases. For a straight edge I used a strip of cardboard just so I wouldn't be able to take measurements. My 1st version was pretty limited and the cardboard motor mount deteriorated from the constant vibrations of the 450 motor. The 2nd one didn't have any curve to the front, so when I hit a small 1/8" lip around the basketball court the batteries flew into the lift prop and stripped the rudder servo. Version 3 has curved edges around all sides, a metal gear servo to rotate the motor. I also made the motor pull instead of push so I get a little more speed and control. Now it hangs on my wall with no electronics since I had to use them elsewhere.
Thats prett cool. Ever try using gas engines? :3
Many years ago I made a 2" thick foam airboat thingy with a moving motor pod.

Unfortunately, no I haven't been able to afford gas engines for any projects yet, so I'm still on electric. I thought about trying to make a hovercraft with a leafblower a long time ago but my dad didn't like the idea of me using parger power tools and running engines at the age of 8. Instead I took apart my moms hair dryer and stuck the fan on a foam plate with a battery and pushed it around the floor. They were still unhappy about it but I could tell my mom wasn't so angry about it since she had been wanting a new one for a while. That's a nice looking hovercraft, how much does it weigh? Mine were pretty light at 3-5lbs. I've wanted to design one with a skirt as well but every time I try it just fails. I can't cut it into the shape I need and when it actually does get into the right form it rips and pops within 5 minutes. I used heavy garden plastic and still couldn't get it to shape right. The corners were the worst for me since they don't want to bend much or seal completely. It's a true work of art getting it to that shape and I gave up on it.
Haha, Hair dryer hovercraft, thats awesome. Yeah, I actually picked up 4 4-stroke 40 cc engines for $30 each a while ago. Soon one will go into a newer hovercraft.
Mine weighs about 34 lbs, and has a thrust of 10 lbs and could take a payload of 50 lbs. The skirt I sewn with nylon rip stop fabric (rainjacket material). The bag type was easier, the segmented type later was much harder and more tedious.
Making the pattern is fun. Just keep at it.

I'll have to try those materials when I get the time. I tried lots of things, from heavy trash bags to pool cover water bags and they never could work the way I wanted them to. The hair dryer hovercraft was more of a floor puck than anything since you couldn't control it. You need to skip the model hovercraft and go strength to the full size but powered by electric leaf blowers so you can use it at a con. I can only imagine the comments you would get from the staff and news media if you went outside.
Lol not as bad as my idea of driving myself around with my erevo tied to an office chair. If I get off the chair it has enough power to fling it across the room. Other bad ideas involving a con and RC stuff include having a small 250 size quad follow me as I walk with my goggles on (already done with my little servo roller around the house), performing an aerial demonstration at a dance competition, and hosting a panel about drones, planes, helis, and multis. I really need to stop thinking of ways to integrate RC into these things. I've already tried to start a small "Air Force" for my high school, but some people apparently don't like the idea of an RC plane flying overhead during the national anthem at football games. I did however manage to use my mini vapor for an English project about 9/11. We scored the top of the class for creativity and almost hit a few kids when the AC system blew it down from the ceiling. Good times...
Hah, yeah, flying them around people is a bad idea. So many things can go wrong. Unfortunatly the few are ruining it for the many when they use quads/planes irresponsibly. I thought about mixing RC with furry, but honestly, they aren't related, besides both being hobbies. I did do one public fursuit event with a bunch of other suiters at a local park where I ran my E-Muggy. The kids loved it, and I was actually able to do it with the paws on. Had a Teken RX8 ESC with a sensored 1700 kv motor. I could just keep it at a very slow creep so I don't kill any kids, lol. Then got out into a open area and tilled up the grass. I used to run a 2650kv motor, but it kept eating ESC's. lol.
Oh, interesting surprise when it comes to drafts and quads.... If you fly over a fire, it actually will drop, not rise as you'd think there is a updraft. Its most likely the less dense hot air.

I've heard about the quads in hot air before but never done it myself. Right now the only functioning helicopter system I have is my my MCPX BL and it even has a cracked landing gear that I have to replace if I plan to flip it upside down. I love driving and flying in public. This year I was able to drive my erevo around at a local festival. I also ran into my study hall teacher while I was driving. Well maybe not "running into" him but you get the point. He's one of the grumpy types of teachers but after that he's been fairly calm around me. All it took was me driving a car in front of him and kicking up a bunch of stones at his shins and I instantly become one of his favorite students. I run the standard mamba monster max setup in my rig and don't have any need to go higher. If anything, I need to get some new lipos for it since I ruined my old ones.
