Why does Zeroelle's outfit look so strange? Well, simply because it's only the middle part of the complete set! When she was a child, she dreamed of getting involved in some of the more vainglorious aspects of war, and requested her very own set of armor. When her parents purchased a custom suit for her, it was the modern teenager's equivalent of getting one's own car- a ton of expensive metal. She was a bit of a terror in her own rite, but as the years dragged on, the shield-and-broadsword style of warfare grew old. These days, she prefers the hip new fencing style of swordplay and interpersonal duels. However, the chestplate and skirt (composed of hard leather and a very, very expensive iron mesh) still feels right on her, and so she enjoys its use while the rest of the suit stays in the proverbial attic until she needs to look regal for an event and assert her masculinity.
