I’ve already talked about Kitty Scratch, but here are a couple other characters from Southern Gothic hell. They’re both damned souls, sentenced to work the fields of Old Scratch’s tannis root plantation.
Lil’ Ragamuffin is basically the same as she appears in Guttersnipe. A happy-go-lucky street urchin from Depression-era Garbagetown DC, Rags was damned after losing a fiddling challenge to Old Scratch. She died of exposure.
Rags’ theme: Devil Went Down to Georgia (Charlie Daniels Band)
Hellbender Fats is a surly blues musician from the Mississipi delta. He’s in hell after selling his soul to Old Scratch to become a great blues guitarist. He died after being stabbed in the back by a jealous rival.
Hellbender Fats’ theme: Crossroad Blues (Robert Johnson)
