Zarra is a Royal Zafara who aspires to be more than just the positive, maternal figure for her baby cousin. Then, one day, a faerie comes along who is willing to give her a chance to experience life in ways she's never experienced before. Is this is the big break she's been waiting for?
This story was written back in 2006 and submitted for a contest on the Wizards of the Coast Neopets Message Board. It took first place. If you are a fan of Neopets, I very much encourage you to give it a read and share your thoughts.

The character limit did this make tale a bit of a rapid one. However, I was still pleased with the results. My typical work is MUCH more wordy and descriptive then this and I enjoyed the challenge of trying to condense a decent story into such a small space.
As for the Neopain Times, I have not entered into it yet. I probably should at some point. Especially for how much I am trying to save up for a Draik Egg for my sister. I've been working on that goal for the past 3 years! :(

Actually, yes. Chibiicap is perhaps the only other stable Neopian on here to my knowledge. I'd love to see more Neopian artwork on this site. Though, as I've found, Neopets aren't as well liked as other characters. <shrug>
Oh, at last check, Draik Eggs seem to now go for $7 Million. :( I'll be waiting an eternity to get one for my sis. Oh, well.

Thanks MJ. I've have to see about getting some more stuff up on here. I do have a large body of personal work that I've been working on for the past 9 years. However, I'm a tad bit timid about sharing it. I want to be perfect and hope to, one day, have it published as a body of work that readers both young and old can appreciate.
Ehehe, awww, how fun! I was giggling and smiling when reading through it - the potion explosions sounded like fun! :D I really liked the faerie - very optimistic and cheery whether things are still simple and fun, or at a more dangerous point. (: She really interacted well with Zarra. I think you got in a good variety of adventures for a short story too - chemical fun, a big scary monster, and even a bit of humiliation on stage! (Well, not sure how humiliated she was, but she didn't seem to enjoy being booed.)
I don't mind the briefness of it either. It's a cute, simple little story and I can't wait to see what this adventure full of adventures inspired with your new work coming out. (:

<LoL!> Kayla's laboratory was my favorite scene to write. It allowed me, of all of them, to be the most playful with sound effects. :)
Here's a fun question for you? As a gamer yourself, have you ever played any of the "Resident Evil" titles? If so, did you ever know a book series was written about them by a fantastic writer by the name of S. D. Perry? Before I lost my reading vision, I gobbled up every one of books in the series I could and, in them, found the inspiration I needed to write out my sound effects. Before hand, I felt trapped in trying to spend line-after-line describing a lightning bolt or an opening door to the reader. Honestly, nothing is better suited for the job than a good ol' "KA-KA-RASH!" or "KA-REE-EE-EEK." Such sound effects are delightful in that they also let the reader have a better opportunity to visualize what is happening. :)
As you can tell by this story, Zarra is a bit annoyed, but content, with having a Baby Scorchio for a "Cousin." I am using the longer, fan-fic to show why this is and give a better description as to how a single, female Zafara could possibly be in charge of a toddler of a completely different species. So, through reading this, you have a strong idea as to what doors are available for opening in the bigger tale to come.

You're right! I think the sound effects were great, and surely playful too. I think I prefer it compared to a detailed sentence about it - sounds like you mentioned are short, quick, and don't take long to understand - while a couple sentences about it and what the character/narrator thinks about it doesn't seem as natural to me. Even if some might not think it's as professional, I know I prefer it like that. :D Reading's about imagining!
(Oh, I played the game once, but never knew about the books.)
Hehe, I think it's cool that we heard a bit about him here, and that he's more of a focus in your upcoming work! It's a nice little hint at what's to come. :3

I decided to start at the beginning of your works to read through them - hope you don't mind. :)
I can see how some might thing it moved too quickly, but personally that's not a big deal for me. To me it feels like a story for kindergarteners or something (although of course big kids could enjoy it too) and it wraps up really nice.

Wow! I wondered if anyone would ever read this story again.
I won a prize from Wizard's of the Coast for writing this story. They had a word limit and, well, I am not usually good with limitations. *Shrugs*
Looking back, it's amazing to think how far my writing has come since this tale. I'm still very proud of it, though, as I think I captured Neopets in a fun way.
*Hugs* Thanks for reading. :)
