Varanis is only able to channel but so much of the power derived from his curse before it's original effects take over, and he reverts into the monstrous feral form his people were doomed to by the Gods. However, this power is the very same the Gods harnessed themselves when they came down to the world in corporeal form to exact this punishment, encased in divine harnesses that acted as light armor, and containment for this power. When these Gods departed mortal lands, they returned to the heavens with their armor, all but one who had been destroyed in the ensuing battles against the ancient Vectarr. One harness was thus left behind.
Varanis has found that armor.
With this harness, he can channel as much power into himself as the harness can contain without any penalty, and this is far more than he can muster alone without the risk of corruption. Thus, Varanis is as you see him before you now: much larger and more powerful than ever, a veritable titan of warrior. Unfortunately, this great physical strength comes at the cost of all his other abilities, as the harness contains all of his energy and thus nullifies his ability to manipulate it until he takes the harness off.
As you can also see, it comes with it's own bound sword as well, which is the only one that can be used while he wears it, With this armor, Varanis has truly reached the limit of his physical might.
