I really don't think Miv is evil. The order he belonged to seemed to obide by a VERY strict code of conduct, hence why he was so quickly exiled. That order appeared to oppose the group that Secretin belonged to, like a vanguard of exterminators that tried to protect existence against their kind.
Even though Miv has been exiled, that urge to purify remains with him. In fact these extradimensional beings seem to all pursue a form of purity in their own way, as they all try to leave emotions behind and exist for very specific goals and ideals. Miv is like the cop to Secretin's robber. While I doubt it's quite as black and white as that, Miv believes he is discreetly trying to do what is best. He may actually be right. We still don't know exactly what how dark these shadowy beings are, though according to certain snippets we have seen, they seem to be predators and parasites of a sort.
Think of Nicky like a classic werewolf tale. The normal human on the surface (Nicky) can be harmless, adorable, and incredibly nice. Yet when the conditions are right, a horrible being (Secretin) comes out of them, and can cause great destruction and harm. It leaves the witness (Miv) with the dilemma : Do you kill the human even knowing the conscious mind is innocent, because it is the safest way to dispose of the werewolf and will save countless lives? Or do you spare the human but allow the werewolf to cause ongoing suffering upon the world around it? The third option is to take the human prisoner, so that when transformed it is unlikely to escape and harm people, but doing so is still a heavy detriment upon the human.
In this case, the one with the choice isn't so much of a witness or a passing hunter as he is a weird kind of ordained samurai that obides by a strict code of behaviour. Not even that, because a samurai was human first and samurai second. Miv may have very well been born as a creature with an in-bred desire for order and to purge the dark-things. Still, Secretin can potentially 'mutate', becoming the first dark-doodad to regain humanity and a will strong enough to alter a predestined course of destruction. Miv also has that potential, but his mind is set purely on eradication.

The coolest part is how the dark and the light are quite interchangable. Both seem to be capable of shitty acts to get what they want, and it wouldn't surprise me to find out that the beings of light have an ulterior and similarly forboding motive behind their unseen vigil.
This is even before you get into the idea of rogue members. Secretin seems to be something of a black sheep amongst his kind due to his inability to completely separate from emotion, and it seems Miv's soldier-ish anger and moments of misunderstanding quickly marked her for a fall too. Try to imagine what would happen if there was a member of each group that had similar complications... but that were fully aware of them and managed to keep them hidden? What kinds of intrigue and sabotage would they feel inspired to commit, and what effects would that have on humankind and the physical world? Just as the dark ones seem to have a plan brewing with the goddess, I wouldn't be surprised to learn the light ones have been cooking something also. Alternatively, they might be completely oblivious and about to get slapped with a huge suckerpunch.
Oh the suspense~
