All those jogging workouts with Rose must have paid off because Petie only felt slightly winded even after running all the way to the arena. Unfortunately that had been the easy part since when he arrived at the arena he nearly crashed head first into a mass of legs. There’d been a big turn out to see Rose’s match and people were still vying to get good seats which caused the back-up even in the big arena. Petie felt a little happy this many people were turning out to see his big sister’s match… at least till his rounded ears caught a few snippets of the general conversations going on inside the crowd.
“… so this is gonna be the match-up with the kangaskhan bimbo…”
“… what do you think she’ll wear this time? Hope it’s skimpy…”
“… think it’s true she won’t date you till you beat her in a match…”
Petie felt his cheeks get red as the blood in his little body boiled. He was already well aware the rumor mill had a field day with his sister and her… eccentricity… but it didn’t make it any more bearable to hear. Especially coming from a crowd that’d apparently come to gape and stare at her. Trying to get the anger out of his system in a productive manner Petie tried to shove his way through the forest of legs and tails to get into the arena proper… and almost immediately got bounced backwards onto his bottom. None of the people he’d tried to shove past even bothered to acknowledge his presence as they continued to try and shove or push their way into the arena as well without the handicap of a toddler-like body crippling them. Whimpering Petie bit his lip as he tried to think of a quick plan B that’d get him into the arena before the match started…
“Need some help you little scamp~?”
Petie recognized the voice of the hariyama from earlier and in the time it took him to recall her name was Grace and lean backwards to glance up he found his vision filled with stomach and the underside of a large bosom before the fighting type leaned down, letting him see her amused but friendly expression, and two large hands slipped under him and suddenly he’d left the ground. Squeaking in surprise, though this was hardly a new experience for him, Petie heard the wind whistle in his ears as Grace straightened up and lifted him up to about chest height easily placing him over the heads of most of the crowd in the entrance way. Before Petie could try to appreciate the sudden elevation Grace started moving again… right THROUGH the crowd!
“Pardon me please, big girl coming through~ Excuse me~ Make room please~”
As she moved Petie noticed she was actually putting her feet down hard making the kind of little rumbles he’d have expected from someone her size. It suddenly dawned on him that she’d been stepping lightly before which might have been how she was able to sneak up on him earlier… but he didn’t give it much thought as he watched the crowd before them part like wave before a boat. The smaller students quickly moving aside to avoid being crushed by the giant pushing her way through them, politely apologizing and asking to get past as she went. Petie was too stupefied to feel properly embarrassed as she carried him into the arena and moved to find a seat with grace that befitted her name… he didn’t have a clue WHAT to think of this.
“Now where should we sit… ah! Excuse me gentlemen.” Grace said, the particularly flat accent on the gentlemen bit catching Petie’s attention as he looked to see who she was talking to… and immediately understood the hariyama’s tone. He recognized the luxray and krookodile guys now looking up at Grace with unconcealed fear… they’d both bugged him at different times with attempted bribes of candy and new toys to try and set them up a date with his sister. Despite Petie’s toddler appearance he’d caught the rather blatant hints about what the two had been hoping would happen on that date and had turned them and their degrading attempts at bribery down hard. Even now it’d be a lie if he said he didn’t enjoy seeing the two scurrying away leaving their space on the bench free for Grace to settle down into. Looking up at the giant lady who was still carrying him Petie couldn’t keep himself from asking…
“You know those two?”
“Yes, they’ve… tried to talk me into spending a night or two with them before but that’s not things a little one like you needs to think about.”
“Oh…”
“Speaking of which…” Grace dipped her voice down low and lifted Petie up to whisper in his ear “Forgive me for prying… but are you wearing” alarm bells went off in the teddiursa’s head as he squeaked, his voice shooting up a to an even more childish pitch as he cut her off before she could mention the crinkly baby undies he was wearing. “W-why did you c-come to our training session!?” he managed to squeal out, inadvertently recalling the question he’d had for her but never asked earlier. This seemed to catch Grace by surprise enough she didn’t finish the question she was asking, which had been Petie’s goal. Blinking for a moment she gave a surprisingly fake looking reassuring smile, the blush on her cheeks obvious, as she looked down to him.
“What do you mean? I just wanted to let Maddie know about the match is all…”
“… I LOOK like a toddler, I’m not as gullible as one…”
“Fine… I’ll talk… but only cause you’re a sweet little cutie~” she said with a sigh, shifting Petie over to one of her massive hands so she could use her free one to tickle his toddler tummy with one huge finger. The giggles the teddiursa let out ruining his whole “not a toddler” argument though Grace was polite enough not to mention this. “I wasn’t LYING when I said I wanted her to know about the match… that just might not have been the whole truth is all…” the hariyama said, Petie not sure whether her looking and acting like a big sis who’d gotten caught swiping cookies from the cookie jar after telling her little sibling not to was weird or cute… he opted to not think about it and focus on protecting his tummy from any further tickling while Grace continued to explain.
“Part of the reason I interrupted you was because I hadn’t seen Maddie in a while and wanted to see how she was doing…” she explained, moving Petie so he was sitting on her large lap, her equally large bosom acting like pillows behind his head if he leaned back… which just made things more awkward for the teddy. Oblivious to this she continued “I also felt she deserved to know that Ray is looking into other candidates to fill the 4th member slot after he’d bugged her so much about joining.” Which brought up the question in Petie’s mind about who the 3rd member was then, but he could tell she wasn’t finished so he just kept quiet.
“Also I’ve been looking for an excuse to meet the famous Team Pre-K in person for a while now~” her tone switched to the coddling, cooing tone that made Petie roll his eyes in annoyance… before squeaking as she cuddled him to her plush form “You were even cuter in person~ Even the little grumpy butt dratini~” Grace gushed as Petie blushed, he would have giggled at someone calling Sammi a grumpy butt (if he was sure she wasn’t around to make him pay for it)but this was too awkward for him to manage that “But if you get right down to it I probably did this for a rather… silly and selfish reason.” the giant fighting type admitted, her tone one of embarrassment.
“… what reason is that?” Petie asked, turning on her lap so he could try and look up at her face properly. After a moment of blushing in silence she finally asked “… promise not to laugh?” and when Petie nodded she let out a sigh “Well… I don’t know if I told you or if you figured it out on your own but I have several little brothers and sisters, but they’re back home in Hoenn so I don’t get to see them very often. So when I saw some of the posters for you and your sister, found out you were one of Maddie’s little ones, and found out your sister would be facing the girl Ray was trying to talk into joining the team I… well…” she paused, Petie hanging on her every word if only in an attempt to follow whatever logic she was using “I always wanted to at least have my little siblings getting to cheer their big sister on in a match and since they can’t visit I thought the least I could do was make sure another big sister has their baby brother cheering them on during a match… and it sounds even sillier then it did in my head. I’m sorry.” She said, blushing even more as she looked away in embarrassment.
“That… sorta makes sense?” Petie said, he’d been able to follow the weird stream of logic (mostly due to experience with Jules sometimes stranger form or reasoning) but he had to agree that it probably sounded better in her head. “I’m glad… now as I was going to ask earlier, are you wearing…” this time Grace paused without Petie needing to butt in, though the teddy had panicked all the same, as she turned her attention to the arena “Nevermind, our little chat ate up the remaining time. The match is about to start.” Petie blinked and turned his attention back to the arena where a flygon referee had taken his spot in the center of it. He stood there waiting with a serious look on his face as the buzz of noise and voices from the audience slowly died off to give him the quiet he needed.
“Today we have a Junior match-up in the solo division.” He said, his voice echoing with only a little help from the microphone “To my left we have Esther Adamah.” He called out as Petie looked on, not sure what to expect from a name like that. Whatever he had expected the ample figure that entered the arena certainly was a surprise. It was a purugly girl and the reason Ray wanted her for Team Heavy Weight was glaringly obvious. Like the grumping and Grace this kitty was faaaaaaaat, REALLY fat. Her body was built in a thick, rounded form with large breasts, a rounded middle, thick hips, and rounded limbs. Petie could see all this very clearly because she was wearing a dark colored wrestling leotard as her battle outfit. It didn’t show anything serious but sure as heck hugged her curves enough the teddy was reminded of his aunt Ramona in her sunbathing outfit… which wasn’t a good thing.
Her fact looked just as rounded but it was hard to tell since she was wearing an unusual accessory. Petie groped to remember what they were called before placing it. The kitty had a luchador’s mask on her face, long light brown hair coming out the back of it in a high ponytail. The mask was the same dark color as her leotard with a brighter colored trim around the eyes and mouth… which showed her steely, unfriendly gaze and a deep-set frown with thick pursed lips. It was so odd it was almost comical… grumpy cat the wrestler… but Petie wasn’t sure what to think about this as Grace leaned down to whisper to him.
“All I know is what little Ray told me, this is my first time seeing her… do you know anything about her?”
“No…”
“Huh, would have thought your sister would have told you something… she does research her opponents in advance doesn’t she?”
“Er… s-she was busy…”
Petie blushed and fidgeted, not willing to admit that what she’d been busy with was training him and helping the teddiursa with his latest failed attempt at potty training. He had confidence in his sister though. Rose was the strongest fighter he knew… she could handle herself! At least… he was pretty sure she could. As he watched the fat cat take her position on one side of the referee Petie’s eyes drifted to the other side of the arena. He was more than a little nervous actually… though this was less about the match-up and more about the costumes. He hadn’t checked what Rose was going to wear for this fight so it could be almost anything… and with the mumblings he’d heard from the crowd earlier he just really hoped his sister had opted to be modest this time even if he knew Rose wasn’t so much shameless as she was utterly oblivious to how some people saw her magical girl themed outfits.
“And to my right is Rose Julafton.”
Petie wasn’t sure whether to be relieved or worried when he saw Rose walking out into the arena. He wasn’t sure where on the “modest/skanky” scale her outfit fell in this case. The kangaskhan was wearing a pale green, so pale it was almost white, tight fitting short sleeved top with frilled openings that stopped a few inches above Rose’s midsection leaving her pouch exposed. Over that she wore a mint green, loose fitting vest with a sailor suit like collar complete with a dark green ribbon tied into a large bow at the base of the neck and dark green trim at the bottom of the vest. Unfortunately while the two pieces of clothing did a wonderful job of protecting Rose’s upper modesty it did nothing to hide the fact the khan was sporting an impressive bust underneath them.
Around her middle Rose was wearing a two layered skirt. The first layer being a pleated mint-green skirt with a dark green trim that stopped several inches above Rose’s knees accenting her impressive hips and legs. Underneath it was a pale green skirt that looked almost like a large frill. It started out in the front being only an inch or two longer than the first skirt before dipping down in the back and splitting to form tuxedo like tails… probably to make room for Rose’s thick tail. She wore what looked like flared leg warmers on her shins, colored dark green with mint green trim and bows, that left her feet bare. She had matching forearm guards that left her hands free as well. Petie knew this was because of her elemental punches (fire, electric, and ice), which she could also do with her feet, and the havoc they caused when she wore anything they could freeze, burn, or fry.
Rose had her long silver hair put up in a pair of childish ponytails tied so they were back out of the way behind her ears. On her head proper though she was wearing a dark green alice band with a tiny dark green top hat affixed to it at a jaunty angle. A mint green ribbon was tied at the base of the top hat complete with a bow for extra cuteness. Rose had gone far enough to adjust her make-up just a touch with a mint green as well though Petie wasn’t sure whether it added to the look or not. All together Rose looked like she was cosplaying some magical girl character from a low budget anime… which was probably what she’d been going for in the first place. Petie cheered as Rose twirled and posed for the audience, but the rest of the crowd drowned him out… not that that stopped Rose from ending her pose by tracing the crowd for him and throwing her baby brother a confident smile.
“I think she saw you~” Grace commented, her tone somewhere between amused and cooing “And that’s an interesting battle outfit she has… does she also use it for contests?” the hariyama asked as Petie was glad she couldn’t see his face. It made hiding his flinch much easier. “No… she just likes dressing up…” the teddiursa said… opting to leave out that Rose had a deep-seated dislike of contests and would likely have gotten huffy if Grace had asked that question directly. “I see… well she seems confident all the same, and she knows her biggest little fan is in the stands cheering for her too~” the fighting type added with a giggle as Petie opted not to dignify that with any verbal response as he instead blushed furiously and tried to focus on what was happening in the arena.
Petie watched as Rose continued, her little posing session having barely interrupted her pace, and strode to the middle of the arena where the ref and her opponent were waiting. Arriving there she offered the purugly a handshake saying something about “To a good match” (though the ref’s mic didn’t catch it so Petie had to struggled to hear it over the crowd) as Esther just stared at the offered hand, her expression unchanged. After a moment the kitty gingerly shook it which seemed enough to satisfy Rose as the kangaskhan stepped back and assumed her fighting stance. Shifting her weight and dropping her center of gravity Esther assumed what Petie guessed was her stance as the teddiursa knew what was about to happen.
“Are both fighters ready?” the ref’s voice called out, temporarily drowning out the crowd’s ambient noise, as the two normal types nodded. There was a familiar hush Petie had heard before when he was in the arena with Rose as the audience went quiet in anticipation of what was about to start. “Then Begin!” the flygon shouted, taking to the skys to get a better view of the match… as there was a sudden firecracker like clap making Petie jump a little. Esther had reached up smacked her hands together hard about face level with Rose and the suddenly shock and sound wave the action had produced made the kangaskhan flinch.
“Fake Out.” he heard Grace say, apparently deciding to narrate the match for him and assuming he didn’t know what that move had been. He was too focused on what was happening in the arena to care though as Rose snapped out of the flinch and one of her fists ignited for a Fire Punch… as the purugly slid into Rose’s reach way more smoothly then someone her size should be able to and smacked his sister in the stomach with a move the teddiursa recognized, Sucker Punch. Rose winced at the blow but didn’t hesitate as she adjusted her punch on the fly for a closer range and smoothly slugged Esther across the face hard sending the kitty staggering back.
“Go Rose!” he cheered, though he doubted she could hear him over the crowd, as he watched her charge over to the staggering purugly… no wait… leaning forward in Grace’s lap Petie could see Esther had regained her footing and was doing something. It took a few seconds but Petie recognized the hands on her hips posture and motion Esther had taken and he felt his stomach bottom out. His obnoxious chespin cousin had used the same move on him before and just like he did Rose staggered out of her charge, reeling back and forth even as her muscles seemed to bulge a little. “Swagger.” Grace commented, confirming what Petie already knew “That could backfire if she’s not careful.”
Clenching her fist Rose tried to lash out with a punch, though Petie wasn’t’ sure which one, but staggered badly as she’d thrown herself off balance sending her stumbling towards Esther. Who smoothly slid into Rose’s personal space again and grabbed the stumbling girl before using her momentum to hurl her through the air making Rose land hard on her back. There also seemed to be a dark aura around Esther at she did this leaving Petie completely clueless as to what just happened. Luckily Gace continued her running-commentary for him “That was Foul Play I think… smart follow up…” she said as Petie whined and he could almost hear her verbally backspacing “I’m sure your sisters fine! J-just have faith and keep cheering okay?”
Luckily Petie’s prayers seemed to be answered as Rose rolled to her feet, her eyes visibly focused as the impact seemed to have helped knock her back to her senses. Then she sprang forward so suddenly it took Petie a moment to figure out what happened. When he focused back on her again she’d swung a punch where the kitty had been as Esther… back flipped away? He didn’t take advanced physics yet but he was pretty darn sure that shouldn’t be possible with her weight but there the kitty was moving like a trained gymnast.
It was only when he saw Esther’s glowing claws that he realized she must have used a status move which had made Rose’s attempt for a Sucker Punch repayment fail… Hone Claws maybe? He hadn’t learned that move so he was only guessing and since she was silent he assumed Grace didn’t know either. Rose, much to his shock, chose not to press the attack and instead took up a defensive position as the two fighters seemed to be sizing each other up. This made Petie more worried than when Rose had been thrown around earlier. Her style was non-stop offense… was she being thrown off her game that badly by this? Suddenly the purugly put her hands on her hips again and Rose covered her eyes to attempt to advert the incoming Swagger…
Which never came “LOOK OUT!” Petie shouted as Esther immediately dropped the posture the moment Rose adverted her eyes and dashed towards the khan, having used a fake out OTHER than the move. Petie guessed she used Quick Attack or something to help cover the distance since before Rose could properly open her eyes and put her guard back up Esther had flung herself tummy first into Petie’s sister with a cartwheel. The Body Slam smashed into Rose and knocked her backwards, lading her flat on her back for the second time of the match as Esther landed on her knees. Petie bit his lip hard as he watched Rose skid to a stop on the arena floor and lay there…
As a familiar, deep sounding snore reached his ears, Rose’s chest rising and falling rhythmically as she was fast asleep a glow over her body showing that Rest was doing its job. Before the Teddy could relax though Esther launched herself into the air again and came down hard, belly-first on the prone and helpless Kangaskhan with another Body Slam. Petie winced and whimpered, remember Rose had explained to him that even with Early Bird using Rest left he vulnerable for a few crucial seconds that smart enemies could take advantage of. As the large purugly heaved herself off Rose, probably for another attack, the kangaskhan’s fist lashed out and crashed hard into Esther’s cheek… the glow of transferred energy letting Petie know that was a Drain Punch.
Petie found his voice to cheer again as Rose kicked to her feet and sprang after Esther, launching a rapid-fire assault with a Comet Punch. His cheering only slightly dampened as Esther hurled herself backwards, he was now pretty certain she was using Quick Attack to move faster, out of the way. The little teddy was absolutely confident that Rose was back in her usual rhythm and that she’d turn this match into the straight up slug fest she exceled at. A confidence that was shattered as Esther suddenly skidded to a stop and threw out another Swagger, Rose’s muscles bulging under her costume from the attack increase even as she tripped and landed hard on her face due to the sudden confusion.
Instead of pressing her attack this time though, the purguly jumped back further out of range and started to… multiply? It took Petie a moment to realize it was Double Team as after-images of Esther appeared while Rose struggled to her feet, the kangaskhan visibly struggling to try and focus. Leaping forward Rose threw a two punch combo, one of her versions of Double Hit, at two of the puruglys… but the first blow passed through the one it struck revealing it to be just an after-image and she staggered, making the second blow swing wide and not even come close to hitting. Bracing herself to keep from falling over again Rose kept her fists up in a defensive posture as Esther… created more after-image clones with a second Double Team.
“T-that’s not fair…” Petie mumbled as he watched Rose stagger and fire off Comet Punch combos, trying to hit the real Esther through all the after images. She was still addled with confusion though and her swings were wild and clumsy sending her staggering more than hitting their mark and the few purugly she did hit vanished. “It’s fair… it’s just rather sneaky is all.” Grace said, one of her large fingers stroking Petie’s head as if to try and reassure him “But I’m sure your sister will be fine……” her tone was obviously unsure which didn’t help Petie’s mood any as he watched Rose punch and kick wildly as Esther launched into another Double Team as a crowd of fat, wrestler puruglys now surrounding Rose from all sides.
“Where is she going with this…?” Grace mumbled to herself, though it was impossible for Petie not to overhear. The teddy wasn’t sure what she meant though, he assumed her next step would be to pummel Rose while she couldn’t strike back… right? For a moment it looked like he was right as the cats started to move and bounce the confused kangaskhan around… a kick from one side, a hip check from another, a punch from behind… they had complete control of the match. It was then Petie finally noticed that the attacks didn’t look like they were doing any damage. They were literally just bouncing Rose around the arena as she tried to lash out at them while doing more damage to herself in her confusion then they were.
“W-what the hecks going on?” he whimpered, now REALLY confused. “I… don’t know… is she playing around with your sister or just trying to buy time for some reason?” Grace said, though Petie wasn’t sure if she was answering him or just thinking out loud. There was suddenly a flurry of motion from the arena as the after images around Rose dissolved in a flurry of kicks before the khan leap forward and launched into another combo, her eyes clear and focused. “YEEEEAAAH! GO ROSE!” Petie squealed, bouncing on Grace’s lap in excitement at seeing his sister snapped out of confusion and back to her butt-kicking self. Even if she was just hitting Double Team clones it still mean she could try and regain control of the match!
And he immediately regretted thinking that as his cheers died in his throat when he noticed Esther was smirking at this new turn of events. Suddenly all the Double Team clones stopped move, put their hands on their hips, and threw out Swagger for the third time of the match. Rose’s muscles bulged like she might have machamp ancestry (though her costumes were all designed with Work Up in mind so it stretched to fit) as she visibly gritted her teeth and fell to one knee, her whole body swaying. Before Petie could throw a mini-tantrum about the kitty abusing moves like that over and over again something happened that surprised him… all the Double Team after-images just… vanished.
Leaving the real Esther standing there half an arena away from Rose as… energy swirled around the purugly taking a spectral silhouette of… Rose! Petie just stared, having no clue in hell what was happening, as the purugly’s fat body game muscle tone and bulk in the extreme, her leotard stretching to accomidate it, without her actually losing any of her extreme roundness. He squeaked a little as Grace, who’d been holding him to keep him from falling off her lap in his panic, squeezed suddenly “Psych Up, so that’s what she was going for.” She mumbled, her tone a mix of horror and almost impressed awe. “W-what?” Petie stuttered, not recognizing the moves name at all… though that didn’t mean much since he didn’t know a lot of moves.
“It copies the opponent’s stat changes. Meaning she lost her Double Team boost… but gained all the boosts Rose got from Swagger.” was her reply in a grave tone as Petie’s face paled at the implications of what this meant. It was then Esther made her move and launched herself across the arena with a Quick Attack, her now tone body still jiggling at the sudden motion, before throwing herself in a gymnastic series of cart wheels apparently fully intent on crashing into Rose like a meteor with a Body Slam or some kind of attacking move. Crashing into Rose who was still on one knee and swaying back and forth in a helpless daze. Petie opened his mouth to scream a warning…
As Rose’s whole body shifted, the khangaskhan swinging her fist up almost blindly by the looks of it in what was probably a Sucker Punch… which caught Esther hard in the chest as the purugly’s own momentum carried her into the blow. Both fighters went flying though since Rose hadn’t had the proper footing to keep from being thrown back by her opponent’s momentum even if she’d dodge the blow proper. Esther meanwhile thudded to the ground and rolled in an undignified heap, coughing and gasping for air as the blow seemed to have knocked the wind out of her. Petie was on the edge of his seat, Grace still holding him to keep the teddy from falling, as he watched Rose struggle to get back to her feet.
“This is nearly over.” The hariyama said, again Petie wasn’t sure if it was for his benefit or just thinking aloud “After powering Rose up that much and the earlier damage Esther has to be nearly down… and Rose can’t risk Resting with how much Esther’s beefed up her attack power.” The fighting type explain as Petie watched the two combatants wobble to their feet before Grace said something that made him gulp in nervousness “The next blow is going to decide this.” her tone was solemn with a barely concealed hint of worry… which just made Petie feel small and more helpless knowing all he could do was sit there and watch.
Rose was upright again, still rocking back and forth from the confusion as she tried to take up a defensive posture apparently having decided to let Esther come to her. Which was probably a good call as far as Petie could tell but his own battle failings had him seriously questioning his judgment. Esther meanwhile was also back on her feet, her wrestling mask bulging a big from a swollen cheek where Rose had slugged her earlier, and had her steely gazed locked firmly on the swaying kangaskhan. Petie could feel his throat dry out and his voice vanish as he could feel the tension building in the air, waiting for which of these two would make the first move…
And suddenly Esther made the move as she charged forward faster then she’d moved before even with her Quick Attack. White lines of slipstream appeared around her fat, jiggling body as Petie recognized Aerial Ace… a move Rose had as well. He managed to realize the purugly was about to charge straight into Rose at high speeds… just as Esther jumped into the air mid run. Watching in surprise he saw the fat cat had launched herself so she was rotating to a horizontal position while still hurling towards Rose with her earlier momentum. Esther was going to slam into his sister belly first with another Body Slam!
It happened too fast for Petie to cry out, heck it happened too fast for him to be able to see all of it well. As Ether hurled through the air towards Rose the wobbling kangaskhan suddenly whipped into motion and threw an overhead punch angling down into the purugly. Petie wasn’t sure if it was a Drain, Sucker, or even a poorly done Elemental Punch… all he knew was Rose lashed out with it aiming to drive her fist into her attacker. And it found it’s mark smacking into Esther’s upwards facing cheek, the unswollen one, hard… but only with a glancing blow. Even as Esther’s head moved with the punch’s momentum her body was too heavy and had built up too much force for a single punch to change its course as it crashed into Rose hard like a wrecking ball.
Petie finally found his voice as he screamed out seeing his sister’s body carried across the arena by the impact of the blow before crashing down in a heap; her opponent’s huge round frame still on top of her. It was a short cry, lost in the crowd’s before the arena fell quiet in anticipation of what would happen next. The flygon ref hovered low, eyeing the two fighters for any movement before making any declaration on how the match ended. Finally there was motion… Petie felt his little heart sink as he saw Esther, both cheeks now visibly swollen, struggling to pull herself off Rose. The purugly’s plush body heaved and shook as she panted but managed to force herself into a standing position despite her legs shaking underneath her…
Rose stayed where she was, sprawled out on her side on the arena floor and plainly unconscious. Petie felt his sunken heart break a little as he bit his lip, not willing to make a scene of bawling like a baby here where everyone could see him… even if he wanted to very badly as he heard the referee announce the results of the match. Suddenly he was pulled back into what reminded him of one of his aunt’s hugs, warm, smothering, and plush… making him recall that he was using Grace as an arena seat. “I’m… so sorry… I brought you here just to see that…” her tone was genuinely remorseful and apologetic… which just made Petie feel worse as the little self-hating gears in his head spun madly to try and figure out how this could all be his fault… his fault his invincible big sister lost…
“Lets… lets go see your sister…” Grace said as Petie saw, through teary eyes, that the medics were carrying her out of the arena on a stretcher… and Esther as well, the kitty having fallen on her ass the second after the match was called. The giant hands around Petie moved to hold him in a gentle, cradling embrace as Grace got up and started to move towards the exit as the ref started to announce the next match of the day. Apparently several people had come just to see Rose’s match as they had to push through a small crowd of folks leaving at the same time. Petie didn’t recognize any of them but it did let him distract himself briefly with wondering how a Scolipede girl could get so big and if the poliwrath, seismitoad, croagunk, and greninja hanging out together were a team or something…
The trip blurred together as Grace seemed to be trying to comfort him with gentle talk like you’d use for an upset toddler, but Petie was beyond letting himself be comforted right now… he wanted to see his sister. He wanted to make sure she was okay. He wanted to apologize for… for… whatever made her lose the match. He didn’t know when he started sucking on his thumb for comfort but by the time he realized it Grace was using two of her giant fingers to gently pull his paw away from his mouth telling him something about it being a bad habit. He didn’t really listen to her… till she mentioned they were there and Petie noticed they were at the larger, arena-side nurse’s station.
Before he could really regain his bearings Grace bent down and set Petie on his own two feet. The little teddiursa wobbled, his legs shaky after having been carried so long, and found himself hugging one of Grace’s huge legs for support as the hariyama knocked on the door. A blissy Petie recognized as one of the head nurses of the school opened it and, upon seeing him down there, moved aside to let them in since she knew he and Rose were related. Grace didn’t move though as Petie glanced up to find she was looking down at him expectantly… he was going in first apparently. To see what had happened to his big sister in person.
Biting his lip and sucking up as much of his earlier whimper as he could Petie steeled himself. He was a big boy. Despite his undies and appearance and lots of other stuff he was a big boy. He could go in there and make sure his sister was okay without breaking down. He could do this, he could steel himself and act like a big boy. Petie’s legs didn’t seem to get the memo though as he wobbled into the nurse’s station like he’d barely gotten the hang of walking, his large amber eyes zeroing in on the kangaskhan sitting up in one of the beds. Rose was still in her battle outfit, but she was hunched over a little with some visible bruising on the parts of her body that was exposed. She smiled a little “Hey there Petie….”
Which was all it took for any attempt to be a big boy to be chucked into the diaper pail as Petie let the tears flow free, running as fast as his wobbling legs would carry him over to Rose. ”Hey. Hey! What’s wrong?” she asked, scooping the sobbing teddy up and hugging him to her chest as Petie was dimly aware of Grace entering after him as well as the nurse and purugly still being in the room. He was a little too far gone to care though as all his confused, conflicted emotions came bubbling out as tears. His sadness that Rose had lost, his worry that she’d been hurt, the feeling that it was somehow it was his fault that it happened… they all came out in untranslatable half sobbed babble as he cried into her top.
Rose hugged him close and gently rubbed the back of the teddiursa’s head as Petie cried and babbled, dimly aware of the passage of time. It was probably only a few minutes though when the flow of Petie’s tears started to die down as he weakly sniffled, Rose was still gently rubbing his head as he timidly looked up to her. “Now, what’s got you all upset?” she asked, her smiling face bringing all his guilt back. Petie sniffled as clumsily rubbed his eyes before he started to babble, how upset he was bringing his infantile lisp back in full, an explanation to Rose… it was only after he finished and he heard Grace comment “What did he say?” that he realized how hard to understand he must have sounded making his cheeks flush a fresh shade of red.
Rose meanwhile, having experience with Petie-gibberish (indistinguishable from an upset toddler trying to communicate), seemed to have been able to follow what he’d said. “So… you think me losing is somehow your fault and that’s why your upset?” she asked, one eyebrow raised in disbelief. Petie nodded… then squeaked as she took one of his cheeks with two fingers and pulled making the little teddiursa flail in surprise. “You little dummy, how could any of that be your fault?” she asked, still tugging on Petie’s cheek as he whined and tried to answer… naturally it came out garbled even worse than before but it looked like Rose wasn’t looking for an answer as she continued on unabated “You weren’t in the ring fighting, you weren’t guiding me through the match, so there is nothing that happened in that arena that could have been your fault.”
Rose finally let go of Petie’s cheek as he whined and rubbed it, but she wasn’t finished with her speech yet “As for me losing? That happens to everyone, it’s just part of stepping into the arena. Heck, I’ve lost plenty of times this is just the first one you’ve seen.” She said, slipping her hands under Petie’s armpits and lifting him up so they were looking eye to eye “Besides, I probably had that loss coming… I’d gotten spoiled with opponents willing to stand and punch it out like how I like to fight. So I hadn’t bothered to consider them doing something else, got caught by it, and lost. That’s all there is to it.” She explained, her expression kind and content, even as she explained how she’d messed up. Which just left Petie feeling more confused though his guilt was subsiding a little… shouldn’t she be upset she lost?
“As for you…” Rose said as Petie’s confusion was pushed to the side by her rubbing noses with him making him giggle and squirm “Thank you for cheering~ It made me happy to have you there, I’m just sorry I worried you is all~ I’ll do my best to win next time, okay~” the reassurance was very much adult-to-toddler but Petie was too happy Rose was okay to care. Nuzzling back he gave her the best smile he could manage before she snuggled him again. Somewhere behind him Petie could hear Grace cooing over the sweet scene but he didn’t care too much. He DID care when a musical and deep voice cut through the air in a sarcastic deadpan tinged with annoyance.
“Ugh, just change his diaper, put him to bed, and spare us this sappy scene already. You’re making me ill.”
Petie flinched and went bright red, figuring out who had spoken coming in second to the panic that his undies had ended up visible while he was being cuddled. Then he realized the sarcastic tone of the comment and context and relaxed that he was just being made fun of… or something. Glancing over he was slightly surprised to find it’d been the purugly who’d spoken up. Esther was still in her leotard but had ditched the mask as the nurse’s treatment had helped the swelling of her cheeks go down to manageable levels… and she was glaring at them in annoyance, her whiskers twitching as she did so. Rose was glaring back though Petie noticed and he couldn’t see behind him to confirm if Grace was doing it too but he felt like she was.
Esther just stuck her nose up in the air and looked away with an audible “Hmph” noise, reminding Petie of a certain dratini whenever she got into an antisocial-but-not-violent mood… which was admittedly not as often as her antisocial-but-violent ones. The blissy nurse spoke up and broke up the little standoff though “Well there’s no fractures, cuts, or anything serious thanks to that being a relatively clean match. You two will be sore for a day or two but otherwise you’re free to go.” She explained, the unspoken implications being “Get out so I can get ready for the next fighters” Petie found himself being lifted as Rose stood and carried him out, Grace and Esther following… all three girls apparently knowing enough to know not to upset the help. Unfortunately this left all three of them standing awkwardly in the hallway with Petie in tow.
Or at least they were till Esther turned on her heels and tried to walk off, large body jiggling in her leotard, without another word. Not that Petie would have minded her leaving though… at least till she stopped, hear ears twitched for a moment, and she let out a loud groan of annoyance. Confused Petie listened… and hoped he was hearing things and that the cartoonish “Boing, boing, boing” noise getting closer wasn’t real. The grumping he’d seen talking with Maddie earlier bounced into view, cutting off Esther’s attempt at a quick getaway as he bounced off his tail and onto his hooves in front of her, a big warm smile on his face. He could hear Grace groan as well as Petie watch the standoff between the kitty and the pig begin.
“Hey there Esther! Great match!” it was Petie’s first time actually hearing the grumpig, if he remembered right his name was Ray, talk and the tone was friendly and bouncy… which coupled with the big smile and innocent look in the pig’s eyes reminded him of Jules “Thought I’d see how you were doing.” He continued, apparently oblivious to Esther trying to get around him as he cut her off constantly as he stepped to keep in front of her, prattling on as he did so. He continued to try and make one-sided small talk for a few minutes despite his conversation partners escape attempt before pumping his thick, chubby arms in an eager motion and stepping forward so he and Esther were almost touching stomachs… which wasn’t too close due to how fat they were.
“So, have you thought about joining my team yet? You’d be PERFECT for Team Heavy Weight!” he said, tone energetic, eager, and more high-spirited then the situation probably warranted “You’re a great fighter and you’re just the right size for the team too! Come on, wouldn’t it be cool? We’d hang out, train together, face-down other teams and show them what we’ve got…” he rambled, Esther’s tail swaying dangerously as Petie could see her fat fist clinching in, admittedly understandable, annoyance. Luckily Grace cleared her throat loudly before the situation could escalate to a full on mauling. “Oh, hey Grace! You see Esther’s match too? Esther that’s my best friend and teammate Grace.” Ray said, pushing the purugly’s shoulder to turn her to look at the hariyama… and barely pulling his hand back in time to keep from being clawed.
“Petie? What the hecks going on?”
Rose whispering in his ear reminded the teddiursa she was there as well and completely in the dark about who these two fat strangers were. “Er… recruitment attempt?” he whispered, not coming up with any better way to describe what was happening. There was suddenly a piggish squeal making the siblings look up to see a confused looking Ray rubbing his side as well as Esther’s fat ass jiggling down the hallway as the purugly made her escape. Petie guessed she’d elbowed him while he was trying to introduce her to Grace and made a run for it… though it didn’t seem to put any damper on the grumpig’s spirits as he resumed smiling and fell back to bouncing on his tail as he looked up to his hariyama friend.
“I think she’s interested in joining!” Ray said, sounding completely earnest in the statement… as Petie was lucky his paws were soft or the sound of him face-palming would have been much louder. He didn’t know if this pig was stupid, oblivious, thick, or some strange combination of the three. “She just needs time to warm up to the idea is all… what do you think Grace?” Ray continued, apparently having not noticed his two sibling audience. “Well… she is strong Ray…” Grace said, lightly playing with her hair as if not confident on the subject “But she seems kind of… rude to be honest? Though I haven’t really talked with her so…” she mumbled, apparently uncomfortable saying either her honest opinion of the kitty… or maybe just saying anything bad about somebody? Petie honestly wasn’t sure though the second one seemed more like with how she’d acted earlier.
“She just needs to get to know us better, I’m sure she’s friendly!” Ray said, taking one of Grace’s giant hand’s in his comparatively tiny ones reassuringly “Speaking of which I’m sure she just ran off cause she wants to change out of her battle outfit is all, I’ll see if I can go meet her outside the locker-room… whichever one she changed in. Ah well, I’m sure I can find it.” He said, rambling to himself more than Grace “Anyway I’ll see you later okay?” he said, bouncing back onto his hooves to give the large fighting type a hug before hopping backwards back onto his tail and starting to bounce off. All with a manic pace that made Petie feel a bit dizzy just watching him move… but anyway he was going off to harass Esther some more so that was the last Petie needed to think about him. Just as he thought that he noticed the boing noises had gotten closer again…
“Oh, hey there!”
The teddiursa nearly jumped out of his diapers as a pink pig snout suddenly filled his vision, Ray’s grinning face behind it. Rose jumped a little hop-skip back, groaning a little due to still being sore, to try and get back some personal space since Ray had shamelessly violated that. Not that the grumping seemed to notice as he stood there, back on his hooves proper again, smiling at them. “You’re the lady Esther fought, that was a good match. Really close there at the end.” The smiling psychic type said, stepping forward back into Rose’s personal space, taking her hand that wasn’t holding Petie, and shaking it without invitation “Rose, right? I’m Ray, Ray Roux! Nice to meet you!” he said cheerfully, Petie blinking at how… comic-bookish the pigs name sounded.
“Er… nice to meet you?” Rose stammered, apparently caught off guard by Ray’s forwardness… not that he noticed as he slid even closer. Petie squeaked as the pink ping snout pressed against his little teddy nose in an affectionate gesture and a chubby hand rubbed his head “And who’s this little one~? He seems a little too little to be here at this big school~” Ray commented, letting out a good-natured laugh at what Petie could only assume was a poor attempt at humor. Stepping backwards once more to try and regain space Rose hugged Petie protectively “This is my baby brother and” but whatever she was going to say, probably letting Ray know Petie was 14, got cut off as the pig clapped his hands.
“Your baby brother? That’s adorable! Did you mom drop him off so he could see your match?” Ray asked once again sliding into Rose’s personal space, this time leaning down to get eye to eye with Petie, and tickled Petie’s chin like you would a kid under 6 years old “Don’t worry little guy, I’m sure your big sis will win next time~” he cooed, making Petie blush in embarrassment. Ray obviously wasn’t purposefully teasing him, heck the guy seemed so disconnected from reality Petie wasn’t sure if he COULD purposefully tease someone, but the grumpig’s relentlessly cheerful obliviousness was grating to put it mildly. Luckily he and Rose were spared having to try and make him go away….
“Ray? Weren’t you going to go try and meet Esther outside the locker rooms?” Grace said, lightly poking her friends head with one massive finger. “Oh… oh! Right!” Ray laughed, apparently amused he’d let that slip his mind, before suddenly giving Rose a hug and Petie another head pat “Great to meet you two but I’m gonna have to go. See you!” he said, cheerful tone never wavering, before turning on his hooves and taking a few dancing like steps down the hall before falling back onto his tail and bouncing on his way. Leaving Petie, and probably Rose, wondering what the HECK had just happened.
“Sorry about that.” Grace said, pulling the siblings focus back to the large fighting type “Ray is a nice guy, really. One of the friendliest you’ll meet… he just has trouble sometimes with his affection… eagerness… er… actually I’m not sure what word would describe it well.” She explained, blushing as she rubbed the back of her head “Just sorry if he was kinda overwhelming and please don’t be upset with him, okay?” she finished, giving them a genuine and warm smile which worked to put Petie at ease at least. It also seemed to work for Rose since when Petie glanced up his sister was returning the smile.
“That’s fine, he’s not the first over-friendly, bouncy person I’ve met before.” His kangaskhan sister said, which seemed to take a load off Grace’s mind as she let out a sigh of relief and gave them a much more relaxed smile “That’s wonderful… I’m Grace by the way. It’s a pleasure to meet you Rose.” Grace said as she held out one huge hand to offer Rose a handshake. There was an awkward pause as Rose just looked at the massive hand for a moment, though Grace’s smile never wavered, before placing her much smaller one in it. It closed around Rose’s hand, luckily with no crunch noise, as the two shook… Petie still nestled in Rose’s other arm like you’d carry an infant.
“I have to go change back into my regular clothes, but you’re free to walk with us.” His sister said pulling her hand back and using it to cradle Petie more… as he resisted the urge to comment that he wasn’t doing any walking. To be honest if he was put down he’d probably have to run to keep up with the two even if they went at a leisurely pace. “I’d love that.” Grace said, the two huge girls started to walk down the hall, before adding “Hope you don’t mind me carrying your baby brother around like I did… thought he’d have a better chance of getting a front row seat with a little help.” A little bit of amusement in her tone at the last part as one large finger played with Petie’s cowlick making him blush again.
“It’s okay, you aren’t the first you certainly won’t be the last~” Rose said with a little, nuzzling Petie’s head as he whined quietly… feeling smaller by the minute in this conversation, but Rose apparently didn’t catch the soft noise as she looked back to Grace to ask “But anyway are you a friend of Petie’s? I haven’t seen you before so…” Grace laughed lightly at the question as she shrugged her massive shoulders casually “Sort of, I’m a friend of Maddie, the coach of Team Pre-K and I know about you two from those posters I’ve seen around the school from time to time so I suppose I’m a friend of a friend who’s also a fan…” Pausing for a moment Grace looked to be mulling over what she just said before blushing lightly and letting out an embarrassed chuckle “That… sounded a lot better in my head actually.” She commented as Rose laughed along with her for a moment.
The conversation drifted from there to various topics but Petie found it harder and hard to focus on what was being said. Especially since this was actually worse than when he was being talked down to earlier. He was the “Baby” in this conversation, aka he was talked over but not to nor expected to give any input. A frustrating position he’d been in more times than he could count. Though… between his earlier emotional turmoil, the gentle cradling position holding his head against Rose like a pillow, and the slight sway as she walked Petie found himself starting to drift off to… he promptly blinked his eyes furiously and shook his head. The LAST thing he needed was to doze off in Rose’s arms at school again, last time it happened he’d woken up with a few of her friends cooing and “babysitting” him while she trained!
Suddenly he noticed the swaying stopped as Rose shifted her grip on Petie to gently ease him down onto his on little paws, the little teddiursa swaying clumsily on his feet as he struggled to keep his balance. “Wait here, okay Petie? I’ll be right back once I change.” She said as Petie finally noticed they were outside one of the arena’s locker-rooms. He’d nodded on reflex all the same as Rose smiled and stepped through the door, leaving him alone in the hall with Grace. Blushing and still wobbling Petie stood there for a minute before he noticed how quiet it was… a quick glance confirming they were mostly alone in the hall, probably because the matches were still going on, and also left the teddy caught off guard as massive orange fingers gently slipped around him.
The teddy squeaked as he found himself cradled and bounced lightly in Grace’s massive hands, bringing back memories of being handled by his lugia boss Danu, as she smiled down at him. He found himself lying flat on his back in the palms of her hands, arms curled to his chest and legs curled up cutely, looking up at Grace’s beaming smile. His face flushed pink as he realized how infantile he had to look in this position but fortunately Grace didn’t comment on this beyond a soft giggle. “You have a good big sister Petie~” she said, surprising the teddy as he responded on reflex with “Yeah, I know she is.” Making Grace smile all the more as she repositioned the teddy in her hands.
Petie found himself sitting up in one of her palms, giggling helplessly as she used one massive finger of her free hand to tickle his tummy. “Now then…” she said, Petie noticing she was whispering… just as her finger dipped low and poked his shorts hard enough to make the diaper underneath crinkle noticeable as the teddiursa went red faced as Grace cooed to him “I have enough little siblings to know a diaper when a little one is wearing one, care to share why Petie?” Her tone was gentle and non-judge but it didn’t help Petie feel any better about the topic as he groaned and put his face in his hands, the tiny paws doing nothing to hide his glowing red cheeks.
“I’d hoped you’d forget about that…”
The End.

Part 2

Glad I could read this as one big story read both parts back to back. I liked the comedy bit with team PRE-K and Grace and how Tabitha kept asking if this was normal for team PRE-K.
Maybe if Petie watched some of the match where Rose lost he would be used to it and not lose his cool. All in all good story
