Here we see a transition from an unassuming male human to a still-somewhat-unassuming female yinglet, who is immediately approached by an interested male bearing a gift of a fresh oyster, which sends the poor female a barrage of instinctual responses to the display.

It's a combo of a lot of fun things! I occasionally rehab songbirds, and about 5 years ago I rehabbed and released one of these ridiculous (-ly adorable) killdeer chicks: http://i.imgur.com/xqPwLRE.jpg
As a result of watching it move around on those crazy little legs, I developed a liking for disproportionate little stick-legged birds, and decided that I ever got a comic going, I pretty much had to include something with those features.
A couple years later I stumbled across Lingrimm's work and was all like "Aw yeah, this guy gets it!" Likewise with Mick39's nevreans, for pretty much the same reason. Although when it came time to design the species for the Out of Placers, I ended up meshing those birdy features with some more rodenty ones.

(Deep in some yinglet masterminds lair) "So gentlemen, wizh ze male to female ratio so off balance we need to take desperate measures to ensure the survival of our race, zerefor I propose we make ze females we so desperately need". (a shocked chatter gos thru the gathering of males) "And how do you propose we do zat!" says one finely dressed fancy lad. "ah, zat is ze easy part, BEHOLD!" he holds up a shiny green glowing gem. "we do it wiz zese." "OOOOOO shiny!" says the group. "Yes zey are, but zeir not for us, zeir to sell to ze humans, MALE humans. "whats zat going to do?" asks the male. The mastermind grins. "Transform zem into females" he grins wider "Yinglet females! we've already tested zem on two human males we captured for testing on, and zey worked, BRING ZEM IN!" two female yinglet are brought in, both showing early signs of pregnancy. "if I'm correct in my research, bozh should be carrying female babies, as would all females created in zis fashion." The group stares wide eyed at the formally human male yinglet females, then back at the mastermind, he nods at the group. "So, what say you?" the members of the group look at one another, then back at mastermind. "LETS DO IT!" the two females suddenly feel sick, and not due to morning sickness.
A little something that popped into my brain when I saw this, hope; I didn't read your mind, and spoil anything.

You know, considering how many people have been getting yingletized in the non-canon bits like this, the alternate-timeline yinglets probably would have some crazy plan like this going on.
But I assure you, the canon reasons behind Kass' unfortunate change is even more... fun.

Well that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I like to think that there's a lot of potentially interesting species designed by people around here all the time, but that being from a comic format, there's plenty of pictures of them in different situations and have lots of development via doing stuff in the comic so often. I think that's one of the big things you generally find with species concepts that people enjoy a lot; that there's plenty of media of them, letting the viewer/reader get a solid idea of what they're all about.
But I also selfishly want to think that it's just because I made something super-awesome and that means I'm super great~
