So I just picked this up from a dealer at Phoenix Fan Fest, and it's an excellent resin sculpt that will work perfect for my Vash the Stampede costume I've rocked at cons once or twice.
The sculpt is quite nice and matches the animated gun in all respects, near as I can tell. The only issue I have is that the paintjob is very poor (in my opinion). I'm going to be stripping this and painting it myself when I have the chance.
Does anyone have a recommendation for what to use to strip the paint that won't damage the resin? It feels sturdy, and the spotting I've done with isopropyl alcohol seems to be working, but I had a bad experience using some mineral spirits on a previous resin model and I don't want to repeat the mistake.
EDIT: A good soak in mineral spirits worked just fine. That, plus some picks and an old toothbrush, and I have it almost completely stripped of old paint.
It's a pretty solid piece, with some sculpting putty holding the two main parts together, and a pin or long nail holding the barrel in place (it's also glued, so it won't be removable).
I'm surprised how much detail was lost under the coats of paint. I'm going to spend a day or two making sure all the crevices are cleaned out, then I'm going to see about painting this bad boy. This should be fun!
