I can't remember the exact story it's from, but it's from a paperback anthology of fantasy-SF stories I have somewhere in my collection. The protagonist is a hard-bitten near-immortal who, though incredibly long-lived, isn't impervious to harm. To achieve his goal he keeps going through cycles of injury and recovery. But with an ultimate goal in mind. I'm sure the book is somewhere in that disaster area Shirlee and I call a garage. <=)

Pretty groovy to see your evil twin again.the comic in which you first introduced us to Talboc still makes me laugh to this day.

Reminds of an old folk tale. Travellers stopped at an inn with unreasonably high prices. To get even one traveller ate salt from the saltcellar when the innkeeper wasn't looking.
