Everyone knows about Santa, but this is his Germanic opposite number- Krampus, the Yuletide Devil who punishes wicked children. This is my personal imagining of the Yule Devil. He carries a whip that is used to punish naughty children, and his monstrous appearance serves to frighten the wicked back onto the straight path. In extreme cases of badness, he can manifest a magical sack to carry wicked children off to a frightening place for some time.
