This is pretty much based off a true story. One of my friends describes my Paladin character as one of the best he's seen in the class (probably because it's so different from my personality). In meta-game purposes, my impetus was to murder the entire party by way of my actions, but I justified it all by noting that, as a Paladin, I HAD to do the Lawful Good thing. So if there was a room filled with evil creatures holding children hostage, my character didn't care: he charged in shouting a warcry.

It never worked either, we always won the fights, partially because I had the most unbelievable crit luck on my rolls. I never did kill off that character, and he remains one of my most enjoyed tabletop characters in any game.
