The last few days there has been a steadily growing funk in our kitchen. It wasn't the garbage or the unwashed dishes. There was also a steady increase in the number of fruit flies meandering about the house.

Just after getting home tonight I found the source of both miseries: A sack of potatoes that had gone off without us noticing. Unfortunately, my eagerness to get rid of the bag unleashed a previously unseen colony of tiny, fast bugs unto our kitchen.

Swatting proved ineffective, but then I remembered the hose extension on the vacuum cleaner....
