Little things like this happen when I hear words and phrases. You can say something like "pickle from the jar" and I'll think of "two or more people getting frisky in a kitchen and accidentally spilling brine on each other. Perversion ensues..."
I usually just write it down in my Book of Muse for later dates. Not as much now. I think I'll be posting them from now on. I mean after all, if the phrase can give me full scenes, then maybe someone might be inspired to bring it to life when I don't have the time. Enjoy.
A while ago I had a chat with Trinary on sea ponies when I was drawing up a pic for his awesome story Rainbooms and Royalty. It was a lot of fun brain storming sea ponies, and I could not just let it go. While chatting with my far off sister in smut and silliness,
kaemantis , I started to think of it even more. What are they like? What is their society based on? And how can I draw accurate looking snu snu pics of them when requested.
Well true to form, I is having ideas. Complete with a bit of head cannon. If you don’t agree with my madness, that’s no big. Headcannons are made to volley about. Now on with the….
Species: SEAPONIES (equus amphibian)
Sub Species: Ray, Angler, Common
Gender Ratio: 65% female 35% male
Class: Mammalia?
Order: Omnivora
What is their Basic Physiology?
Avg Height: 6.1 ft Equestria Standard
Avg Weight: 280 lb Equestria Standard
Epidermis: skin covered in soft scales. Large flowing dorsal sail fin. Smaller fin along tail.
Seapony bodies are made for life in the water. Respitory and circulatory systems are created to survive in water (salt and fresh). Muscles coated with a layer of blubber to withstand cold depths of deep sea. Two powerful fore limb flippers for steering. One thick, prehensile, tail for propulsion and grabbing items. Two large eyes and one mouth. Their vision underwater is better than a land pony, but inferior on land. Lenses are enlarged and almost round, adapted for focusing on light that is refracted upon entering water. The lenses are not as well-adapted for sight in air.
Gills as air filtration. When on land, Sea ponies can close gill slits and breathe through their mouth. Hearing is impaired on land.
What is Distinct Anatomy by Species:
“Common” Seaponies have more attuned senses. Able to smell a wounded sailor (or prey) at 700 meters.
“Ray” Seaponies have extremely large fore flippers. They are experts at acrobatic aquatic feats. More muscle than blubber. Able to glide above water for great distances at a good breach. Uses stronger nerve receptors to detect minute changes in the water temperature.
“Angler” Seaponies have an antennae used in the manipulation of magic. The glow also acts as a lure of krill and a natural light in dark areas. Anglers have a jaw capable of unhinging to twice its normal size.
Distinct Anatomy by Gender:
Females have milk producing udders.
Males have a pouch located above their genital slit to hold fetus during the “first birth”.
How do they act On Land?
All seaponies can survive on land for up to 12 hours before they begin to dry out. Seaponies are awkward on land. They are observed hopping along on their stomachs for the most part. Rays find it more annoying due to their large fore limbs. Anglers have the advantage via their magic. Anglers are able to wrap themselves (and a school if needed) in floating spheres of water. Another possibility is the physical changing spell that allows them 3 days in an earth pony/unicorn body. While on land they tend to be near sighted and hard of hearing. Seaponies use these forms to interact with non-aquatic creatures. Trading goods and even forming the odd relationship.
What do they Trade?
Fishing game, Pearls, Navigational maps, shells, exotic spell components
How do they Breed?
Seaponies give birth to live young. Normally one baby per mated pair. Everything starts in the female seapony. Once the female’s young reached mid gestation, the female lays the young (referd to as purse) into the male’s pouch to finish growing. The male finishes the gestation and gives birth to a live baby seapony.
What about Cross Breeds?
Yes they happen although it is a rare sight. A male can impregnate as needed to a compatible female. Females will need a mate with a pouch to hold the “purse .” To that event a “god-father”, or Nerites, will be approached among the male seaponies. They carry the purse to term and are treated as an uncle after the fact. Nerities act as surrogate parent should one be needed. Under the 3 Day spell, should a mare become pregnant, she will gestate as a normal mare. The spell becomes permanent until the mare gives birth. After which, the 3 day spell restarts.
Cross Breed children have strong ties to the sea and large bodies of water. If travel to one is impossible, they tend to own rather extravagant lakes or pools. They have long flowing manes and the skin under their fur has a course scale like quality to it.
Are all Seaponies Sirens?
No. And they actually consider the “s-word” a very insulting term. Derived from the 3 fallen queens of their society, seaponies have mixed feelings when being referred to as such. That being said, to imply that seaponies like to sing is an understatement. They LOVE to sing. They will fall into song at the close of a clam. Sound travels faster in water and they are attracted to melody. Seaponies will listen to anything and can be easily distracted by songs and instruments that are new to them. How well they are intrigued is based on the seapony’s personal taste.
What is their government/society like?
Long ago, the great cities of the sea ponies were the grand jewels of the oceans. Seaponies cared very little for the land born ponies. Deciding to keep land and sea separate. The largest city was the city of Coltlantis. To ensure fairness among the seaponies, the citizens were ruled by a central tribunal officiated by an elected Common, Angler and Ray representative. For centuries they had kept a steady balance of power among the three tribes. That was until three powerful mares appeared. A unique blend of seapony and land pony, dubbed hippocampus and later siren, these three powerful magic users gained control of the sea ponies through hypnotic melodies and underhanded schemes. With their newly formed army and growing magical power, the three made a play to control the coasts. The three were vanquished, and the seaponies were scattered. Abandoning the great cities, seaponies scattered to rivers and seas hoping to hide from their enemies.
Over time, sea ponies developed their own colonies and developed their own distinct ways of life. River based seaponies tend to be more hunter and gatherer. Coastal hugging seaponies are traders and bards. Sea ponies who live in caves and trenches devolved slightly. Aside from more feral looking appearances, very little is known about them.
Are they loyal to Celestia or Luna?
River ponies tend to be closer to Celestia. The rest are allied to Luna. Many believe it is due to the moon’s control over the tide.
Thats all i got so far. I'll add more as my brain comes up with it.
Tell me what you think folks.
