O hai there, I'm on my sister's awesome computer :3
A fairly new character of mine- Honchre's younger brother. He's name is Manu.
Yeah.
I didn't have this much fun while creating a character since I came up with Five.
Yeah (:

*sigh* I've wanted a Lemur character for so long, but every time I think about making one I feel like I'm going to rip you off. :3
One thing I love about lemurs is how they're eye patterns automatically give them a certain edgy look, almost like they are always upset about something! Makes you want to love them harder, ahaha, I love this guy.
But, It's very curious what you have done with the tail however, it looks shaved and that's a very unique characteristic of any anthro. I've always imagined Anthros to be much like humans, striving for a unique look and some individuality, and I don't see what that shouldn't include fur cuts; I'm sure many would change their stripes if they wanted to! Although, this is something I never really explored much in my own art, it's something I enjoy in yours. :> You have a gift with adding personality to your images.

Please do! I don't see too many lemur characters around (same with anteaters) and it's always exciting to see a new one! And nah...my lemurs just look like lemurs with weird hair and cartoony anatomy anyway, there's nothing to rip off, really. It's the personality that counts in a character, we agreed on that, remember? :3
So if you want to then do iiiiiiiiiiiit~
Haha, yeah...they're awesome like that. Though to me they look more like emo-kids...you know, stripy tail and heavy eye make-up? That, or fans of heavy meatl bands xD
Though this one here is a necromancer...kinda. I wanted to have a necromancer character and the first thing that came to mind was a katta, I'm not sure why. So now I'm creating a whole 'tribe' of necromancers, ahahaha...mostly Manu's siblings. I'll spam FA with some sketches of them in the near future, too.
I'm glad that you noticed, though it's not shaved. You see, I've read/ heard somewhere (because my knowledge about lemurs comes from books, internet and Animal Planted and some other channels about animals, I'm that awesome D8) that a 'bald' tail means that a katta isn't in good health (or starving). Manu here has a disease that will eventually kill him, however the process is very slow.
Though his sisters shave their fur, creating weird tattoo-like patterns on their faces and back, hahaha...

That reminds me of the pictures I have from the Zoo that I wanted to upload, I should show you some pictures I have of the lemurs and giant anteaters. I took a bunch of junk shots so I could study and draw some at a time. I've noticed that anteaters have become a bit more popular, but lemurs still need some more love and you have such an original style with drawing them both! So, I doubt I could really copy you. :>
Hahaha... yeah, emo kids, but way cuter. :D I have this one picture of a lemur I really liked though, and he looks so adorably angry... I dunno, it might have just been him! But, here... I'll upload two images for you into my scraps tonight.
Oh, this is where you and me differ however, I'm terrible about inventing new characters, and even more afraid to start a new story... but, seriously, I need to start doing that. It's only possible for a few stories to motivate you for so long, and it's about time I expanded really. I may not ever create novels, but I can at least create some inspired artwork.
I didn't know that about unhealthy lemurs (and believe me, you probably know more than I do, and your learning methods are just as advanced as mine are), but t makes sense that unhealthy animals might experience fur loss, though it's usually self-inflicted by chewing/rubbing/irritating that areas too much. Hmmm... regardless, I've always love to think about ways I can make an anthro somewhat unique if I can.
Oh man, when you get the opportunity though, post those lemurs! I'm excited.

Hooray for butting into convos! 8D
Typically, hair loss in lemurs is due to an unhealthy diet. Either as a result from starvation, or from eating certain plants. Plants high in the acidic chemical mimosine- In particular, the leaves and fruit of the 'Lead tree' (Leucaena leucocephala). Apparently this chemical is bad for a lot of animals, but on Madagascar Lemur catta eats the plant out of desperation in the dry season when food is scarce.
Foods high in Iron or Vitamin C (such as Citrus fruits) are also bad for lemurs and in some cases can cause similar reactions, although the result of eating such foods (High-Iron or High-Vit.C) is fatal, unlike eating from the Lead Tree. That tree just makes them lose fur, Iron and Vitamin C will cause Haemosiderosis and lead to a slow and painful death.
And yet ignorant zoos feed their lemurs oranges, then stare in wonder as the lemurs start dying off.
BUT I DIGRESS!
Your characters shave their face? XD But lemurs already have bald noses and eyes, what more do they need?

Oh, oh, oh! They were talking about that plant on Animal Planet! I just...can't remember it's name, I'm a moron when it comes to latin (too bad I'll have to study it for the next year, OH WELL)
Didn't know about the citruses, though. Aaaaw, poor dudes can't eat oranges...orange is goooood.
And yeah, they shave the furred space on their face (did that made any sense? It rhymed though, haha), as well as their back and arms creating weird patterns and such. Then again, his sisters are a bit insane...well, you'll see when I post some drawings of them....not too soon, though- I need to find a functional scanner somewhere, brglrh.

They were? Sweet! O: I've been watching that show Lemur Kingdom- I've missed 2 episodes of the series, but I have all the others recorded. xD It's pretty interesting, even if Ring-Tailed Lemurs are actually one of my least favorites!
LATIN IS SO MUCH FUN! I've never taken Latin classes or anything (a curse of being homeschooled), but I just love learning the Latin names for everything! I can already recite more than 60 of the lemur species by their their common and Latin names. I love learning them both, though! It's so interesting! C: BUT, I'm just a nerd and love learning anything new- Especially lemur-related.
I know! No oranges for the lemurs! D:
Ohhhh. o: Crazy! I've considered making a crazy Ring-Tail, but I've already got enough of them (3. Which is a lot for me. XD I'm going for just 1 or 2 of each species). I'll have to make a really insane lemur sometime, though. I have several crazies, but none are severely insane. ANYWHO, can't wait to see them! 8D Hopefully you can get a good scanner soon.. Bleh. :C

Psst. PSSSST. It's awesome that you were careful to get the exact number of stripes on the tail- That's something I rarely see, and something I can appreciate! I'm not sure if you were going for realism or just recognizability with the tail, buuut... If a lemur's tail was shaved, it would be solid black. :P Actually, if you shaved a Ring-Tailed Lemur down completely, it'd be completely black. They have hair instead of fur, so all the pigment is in the strands (like human hair). If you notice, all the hairless areas on them (their muzzle, palms on hands and feet, scent glands on the male's wrists, and the actual ears beneath the hair) are black.
I'M NOT TRYING TO CRIT OR BE NITPICKY because I love your lemurs to death! :D Just thought I'd share that with you, since not many people know it. :3

Also- TRYING SO HARD NOT TO BUTT INTO THE OTHER CONVOS ON THIS PAGE. XD Whenever I read stuff about lemurs, especially with people who actually know quite a bit about them, it switches me into LEMUR-NERD-MODE. Which is bad. Because then I never shut up. x'D BUT AAHHHH I LOVE TALKING ABOUT THEM! <3
No, no...I didn't take that as a 'nitpicky' comment at all, haha. As I've said before- my knowledge about lemurs comes from books, internet and TV, never even seen the real animal *emo*...sooo it's actually pretty awesome of you to offer some advice and point out some facts about them, seeing as you worked with those awesome creatures and all. Thank you, I really appreciate it :3
I know that their skin is black, though xD. I have a few sketches of Manu with his tail completely black but...meh, I use the artistic license as an excuse here, because I prefer their tails stripped...and dunno, I mainly work with black ink and nibs- this medium makes the black tail too distracting, at least for me. My stuff is heavily stylized anyway, haha...

Alright! I wasn't trying to nitpick, you just seemed like the kind of person who would be open to some new information! Even if.. It's something you already knew. Haha. XD
IT SUCKS THAT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THEM! D: I've met several lemur fans like that- It's just not right, I say! If I had the money I'd take my lemurs across the world and show them to all the lemur-fans who haven't had the chance to see them. :C
Awww, well I'm glad you appreciate the information. You're very welcome! ^^
Ahh, I see. xD Yes, I can see how it'd be distracting! Like I said, I wasn't sure if you just didn't know the fact or if you were using some artistic license, but I thought I'd offer the info anyway!
Stylized? Have you seen my art? XD I'm a crazy cartoonist! I understand stylizing, but I always prefer to keep it real. I think the unique features of each animal are cool exactly as they are and don't need much- if any- modification. But that's just my own outlook on it! :P I think that your keeping the striped tail makes him recognizable as a Ring-Tailed Lemur, which is good. :)
