Astrid Fireheart, the Highly Annoying Flamethrower
Age: 19
Origin: Codex Umbra; Maxwell’s Monster Creation spell
Occupation: “Artist” (makes statues, paints and draws; loves to sing disharmoniously.)
Background: Like the other monsters, Astrid was summoned by Maxwell through a spell he found in his Codex Umbra. As a child, she almost never did what Maxwell asked of her. Instead of being a part of his magic tricks, she would sometimes dance around the stage and sing, or hide back stage and draw all over the walls with her many crayons.
Astrid views Maxwell and Charlie as her parents. She considers the Deerclops, Bearger, Goose/Moose and Dragonfly as her friends, but doesn’t have a good relationship with them in her teenage years. None of the monsters have ever said much to the Foxtopus, and Astrid in particular is frightened of him. Astrid is the smallest and most childish out of Maxwell’s ‘pets.’
Trivia:
1. Astrid’s design was originally based off of various subjects: her wings are structured similarly to The Deathbat (Avenged Sevenfold’s mascot); her ears and mane are inspired by a hyena’s appearance, her thin frame is based off a more Tim Burton style, and her face and muzzle (in the current design) is similar to that of the wolves from Don’t Starve.
2. Astrid's designated voice actor would be Jaime Andrews mainly for her sarcasm and humor (also damn she's got a nice voice =D). In Don't Starve, her in-game voice would be that of a middle or high-note piano.
3. In the Shadowbound AU, Astrid is an adult dragon and her enhanced power is shared between her and Lord Percival. Although she is immune to the Nightmare Throne's corruption, her flighty and happy personality withers over the years as her accomplice falls further into the line of a true sociopath.
4. Astrid's Shadow is not a "dark form" nor is it an alt ego. Every creature in the ShadowLands is made up of shadow magic; demons with physical forms. Astrid's shadow has six eyes on her face and a few scattered around the palms of her wings and her tail tip. This can be seen during low sanity or on the night of a full moon where no light source is necessary.
5. Although no current romantic interest is suggested, it is hinted that Astrid once had a thing for Edmund, in her younger years.
6. Astrid does not actually possess a last name. Like the other creatures, Maxwell only gave each of them a first name as you would with pets. But as theatrical Astrid grew up, she wanted a more ‘presentable’ way of ‘presenting’ herself and thus started calling herself Astrid Fireheart—a name she derived from the time where she’d eaten too much peppers and gave herself heartburn.
7. Astrid can sometimes be found standing or strolling around on her hind legs.
